Smith & Wesson® Withdraws from Eastern Sports and Outdoor Show®

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (January 22, 2013) --- Smith & Wesson, a U.S. based leader in firearm manufacturing and design, today announced that the Company will not attend nor will it support or participate in the 2013 Eastern Sports and Outdoor Show in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. The announcement comes after the decision of show management company, Reed Exhibitions, to prohibit the display of modern sporting rifles in this year’s event.

James Debney, President and CEO of Smith & Wesson, said, “As a market leader in the firearm industry and an iconic brand that spans 160 years of American history, we believe it is important to make our position perfectly clear: We support the Second Amendment and the rights of our law-abiding customers to purchase these and all legal firearms. Therefore, we are unable to support any organization or event that prohibits legal firearms, or otherwise restricts a citizen's lawful and constitutional rights.”

I saw Eotech, Leupold, Trijicon, Thompson/Center, Redfield, Otis Technology, Benelli, Stoeger, Franchi and Federal Ammunition on the list and Looking at the remaining vendors left, it looks like it will be a Fudd-fest. I didn't see Remington Arms or or Colt listed on the vendor list but Savage and Mossberg are still listed on their site. With the high profile names that dropped out today I wonder if the NRA will pull-out. With over a week left before the show this should be fun to watch.

I was happy to hear that S&W has backed out of the show and others too. Savage did announce it on their website. I was visiting their site when I found the announcement.

I own both Savage and S&W firearms and Fully Support their decision.

Excellent! The combination of legal gun-owners, AND the manufactures in condemning attacks on 2A rights will really make a great statement. I'm glad they're doing this, and that so many companies are doing so. I'm not sure if anything similar happened in 1994, but it's good to see now.

I may only own a S&W knife, but they've definitely earned my respect, and when I do finally get a revolver, I know who I'm going to buy from. :D
