Tavor grip part of body? Or evil pistol grip?

Recommended Posts

The shop I bought my Tavor from said it's ok for the weapon to have an unpinned flash supressor because the grip isn't a pistol grip since it's a molded part of the frame. Can anyone confirm?

This is not the general consensus of every ffl I have talked to. They ALL permenantly attach them.

Mine and everyone I know that has one has it pinned or welded on.

Thanks for the quick reply, Blake. I will definitely be getting it permanently attached. It's not worth the risk.

Since it isn't currently pinned/welded do you think It would be smart to just swap out the flash supressor for a muzzle brake? And then have that pinned?

I would find one of the forum vendors on here, contact them and go from there.

Can't see where you are from but TJs Sporting Arms does it in Ocean County and Monmouth Arms does it in Mounmouth County.

I have a battlecomp on mine and it works really well. Have pws fs556 brakes on other rifles that work really well too.

Nj does not define thumb hole stock.... They do however define pistol grip....

http://njgunforums.com/forum/index.php/topic/29389-read-before-posting-nj-gun-law-faq/

Since "pistol grip" is a term NJ uses to describe a feature, it is important to know what NJ deems a pistol grip.

Take notice that it does not say fired comfortably with one hand.. it simply says fired..

"Pistol grip" means a well defined handle, similar to that found on a handgun, that protrudes

conspicuously beneath the action of the weapon, and which permits the firearm to be held and fired with one hand.

I would not rest my freedom.... Or my ffl on that not being a pistol grip... I think they are really rolling the dice...

To the best of my knowledge, there is no definitive ruling in New Jersey that let's us know if thumbhole stocks and stocks with integral.grips are considered a "pistol grip". The safest route would be to treat it as one.
