Buying Powder in NJ... FID Necessary?

Recommended Posts

I called a relatively local shop and inquired about powder. I was informed that if I want to buy, I need my FID as it is now "regulated". Is this true? Did I miss something?

At worst it was just a drivers license.

Lautenberg tried for background check, pretty sure it died with him.

I saw Gene ask just last week.

He wrote the sale on one piece of paper and the buyers info on another.  Don't recall if it was a log or not but he definitely wrote it down.

Did he claim it was some form of law or just his personal policy. The man does have strange beliefs.   It would be odd if "I don't take credit cards, and shove cash in coffee can" Gene started keeping that sort of records.

I bought powder and primers a few weeks ago from Bob and in his usual obnoxious self, he said I needed my iD, which I had.

Last week I went and bought powder and primers from Gene and my drivers license was good enough. Which was good since I forgot my FID. he didn't even ask for it.

He didn't offer and I didn't ask, and truth told, who's going to argue with him? : )

Thanx, those are as silly as hours get.

Yep. Unfortunately it is what it is.

Word of advice, go closer to closing. I've often waited 30 - 45 min on a very slow moving line when going early. One Sunday I told myself I should go at 3:45. Instead I went at 3:00 and waited until 3:45 and at that point there was only one person behind me.

About 3-4 years ago I had to show my NJFID at Solomon's to buy primers, he scribbled the info into a ledger. PA is safer in my opinion, who the hell wants to be called by the NJSP one day because you have a cache of supplies to make 1000's of bullets for your arsenal of guns? Isn't that what things are devolving to in dumb states like NJ?

Wow, didn't even know about that, is that DOT statutes? Never bought more than 5lbs of powder at a time
