OchoBlue 3 Posted March 20, 2014 What is the process to extend a p2p the additional 90 days ? Is there additional paperwork? Thanks!
DoubleTap 0 Posted March 20, 2014 My experience has been to go back to my PD & the chief signs off on it. I have heard & read that it's to their discretion though.
njJoniGuy 2,131 Posted March 20, 2014 Strictly up to the Chief. Some don't want to see you until your first 90 days are up Others will renew it in the week before Some won't do it at all. A little bit of 'ask nicely' goes a long way here. And usually no paperwork, though there have been stories of some Chiefs asking for a reason why they should renew it for you. Mr.Stu 1,922 Posted March 20, 2014 Also, some won't do it after it has expired but will before. In my town I have always been told when I pick them up to just bring them in if I need an extension. I like my town.
DargZ 5 Posted March 20, 2014 It depends on the town. Best bet is to call them and ask. I've dropped mine off a few days before they expire. They usually call me in a few days to let me know that it has been extended.
Howard 538 Posted March 20, 2014 What town are you in? Perhaps someone here is in the same town and can give you a specific answer for that town.
OchoBlue 3 Posted April 4, 2014 FWIW the extension process was pretty painless. Dropped off the P2P off and had it back in hand the next week ! Now the question is what to use it on !

mark_anthony_78 0 Posted April 5, 2014 I may have to extend one in Hackettstown, and the detective just said to give him a call and I can stop by to get it signed, no problem (we'll see if it's on the spot or a drop-off/pickup later - but even so they don't mind extending them). Blacksmythe 71 Posted April 7, 2014 In Newark today I walked in with 15 mins and that was it. Not bad I expected a long convoluted no or yes.
ogfarmer 138 Posted April 7, 2014 Dropped 2 off today was told I can pick them back up in a few days (Hillsborough)
JT Custom Guns 957 Posted April 8, 2014 To answer the original question - usually you would request an extension in the last week before your permits expire. You would need to drop the existing permits off the the Admis. at the PD and I always suggest a short, to the point letter addressed to the chief requesting an extension. In most cases, you get a call in a few days saying you're all good and to come pick them up.......
boo 6 Posted May 7, 2014 Clifton requires a short note on why you want the extension. Was told it should only be a few days, but it ended up taking 8, but I think it was because I put the request in during the transition to a new CLEO.
Candyman87 10 Posted May 13, 2014 Just found out Madison won't extend if it's past it's initial 90 days. May 4th came and went. Time to apply for 3 more!
mikka1 2 Posted May 14, 2014 Surprisingly just got extension @ Bloomfield PD. Took literally 20 seconds... Go figure.

mikka1 2 Posted May 16, 2014 Jealous! I'd have a PPQ in the safe if that were the case! Frankly speaking, I was shocked! The thing is that two weeks ago the very same lady was telling me how complicated the process was, how perfectly it should be timed ("come on that day... no and not a week earlier - that would be too early ... and not a week later - would be too late...") etc. etc. I really don't have any reasonable explanation...
