Great men, great country. Lets fight to get that spirit back. It is sad that most people don't reflect on the hardships that brought this country to be great. Our freedoms are being taken away at an increasing pace everyday. Lets get back to basics, God, Country and the pursuit of happiness. Less government intrusion in our lives. God bless America.

29 years ago I raised my right hand and spoke the following words....

 

"I, XXXXXXXXXX, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the lawful orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. So help me God."

 

Since I took the oath, it has been changed to remove the word "lawful" from the "orders of the President..." Part.

 

This oath has no expiration date and I will continue to honor it, in the context I recited, as long as I continue to draw breath upon this mortal earth.

Forgive the minor thread derailment but I find that "lawfull" omission interesting. Do you have any info such as when/where/why it was done?

This is the 1st one I took as a citizen >>>

 

"I hereby declare, on oath, that I absolutely and entirely renounce and abjure all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, potentate, state, or sovereignty, of whom or which I have heretofore been a subject or citizen; that I will support and defend the Constitution and laws of the United States of America against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; that I will bear arms on behalf of the United States when required by the law; that I will perform noncombatant service in the Armed Forces of the United States when required by the law; that I will perform work of national importance under civilian direction when required by the law; and that I take this obligation freely, without any mental reservation or purpose of evasion; so help me God."

 

never did and never will deviate from it :)
