Glock 26 for CCW?

Recommended Posts

I would have no problem with it, some may.  And others say that a G19 is not much different and to go with that.  It will come down to what your comfort factor is.  May I suggest trying different vendors in the same category for what feels good in your hands and then seeing what sits well on your hip.  Unless your interest is in the pocket gun variety. Whole other game there.

I've carried the 17,19, and 26 as a plainclothes and retired LEO for over 15 years. There's difference between a 17 and 26. There's no real difference carrying a 17 vs a 19 or a 19 vs 26. Unless you are trying to fit it in the smallest box possible. The only thing a 26 is better at is carrying in an ankle holster because of the shorter grip and OAL. If you put the finger extension on the 26 you've made the grip the same length as the 26. The 19 is easier to shoot and for the slight increase in size you get 50% more capacity. The 26 is far from a pocket gun.

The 19 is the best all around 9 mm IMO.

^ This is the "A" answer, along with my caveat of "Make every effort to carry the gun you shoot the best, your life may just depend on it"

Want a glock 26 but afraid it's too thick for carry? Boy do I have a solution for you!!! Introducing the Kahr PM9. Check your local market place listings for further details.

Yeah, yeah cheap plug. But it's pretty damn close to a glock

This is also an option of you can't conceal a Glock adequately. I have one that is mostly carried as a BUG but is occasionally pressed into primary carry duty. The capacity is significantly reduced from a G19, but it is a nice little price that does what I need when I can't carry my G23 or G35.

Remember, CCW is more than slapping a gun on your hip and walking out the door. It is a system. It requires lifestyle adjustment and often times a wardrobe/style change. It requires attention to detail and an upgrade in situational awareness.

It is a commitment that should not be taken lightly or attempted half-heartedly.

*Note: this is not directed at anyone, just a point to consider. Especially in this state where CCW is not practiced often or consistently due to prohibitive NJ gun laws.

    • We never let then inside.  Last re-evaluation was 6-7 years ago, wife politely told him that he was welcome to look around the property and he could look in the windows. He saw two white resin chairs in the basement and told her that this constituted a finished basement. And everything in the basement is bare concrete/ cinder block, and mechanical systems. Nothing finished about it. Ultimately he relented and I'm sure that was a ploy to coerce us to allow him in
    • I use an Alien Gear cloak tuck (IWB) with my Shield.  Neoprene back - in the summer it does feel warm but doesn't rub or chafe.   https://aliengearholsters.com/ruger-lcp-iwb-holster.html Could also go with the shapeshift as it has multiple options - OWB/IWB, Appendix... https://aliengearholsters.com/ruger-lcp-shapeshift-modular-holster-system.html
    • The  12-1 compression ratio L88 is long gone. This is GM's updated version. it might be  pump gas 10-1 engine The L88 was a aluminum head  cast iron block engine with a nasty solid lifter cam. the  ZL1 was a all aluminum  12 or 13-1 compression ratio engine with the best forged internal parts at the time and had a even nastier solid lifter cam
    • I like my regular carry holster.  OWB leather with belt slots.  I've been carrying for over a year and it was comfortable and I hardly even noticed it.  I carry (usually) a Ruger LCP .380 - light, convenient, tiny. But...today I ended up taking it off an leaving it home after a few hours. I cut down a big maple tree a few days ago and I spent 3/4 of today loading and unloading firewood into the back of my truck and a trailer.  It was a warm day, I was dirty, tired, sweaty, and my holster was rubbing against my side.  The leather and exposed metal snap was no longer comfortable. I'm thinking about adding a layer of something to that part of the holster to soften the contact.  Anything insulating will make it worse.  I don't want a sweaty, hotter holster against my skin.  I'm imagining something thin, breathable, that won't absorb sweat, and softer than leather, metal snaps, and rivets.   But I have no idea what would work. I'm hoping somebody else has already figured this out and I can just do what they did. Any suggestions appreciated.
    • Check the primers on the ammo you didn't shoot yet. Are they fully seated? If the primer is not just below flush with the back of the case, the first hit can seat it better then the second hit ignites it.
