wadezky 8 Posted July 3, 2016 Hi all. Looking for a smaller gun and I'm thinking I want a .45 this time, so I wanted to get some thoughts from anyone that has one. Why a .45? Just want to try something different from the other guns I have, so why not a .45. In what I've read, the xds and G30 seem to be the most popular but I would like to hear from actual owners of a smaller .45, no matter the brand. Thanks in advance. Ricky_Bobby 130 Posted July 3, 2016 XDS and Glock 30 are 2 totally different 45's. Glock 36 would be more comparable because it's a single stack but the 30 is the size of the 19 but wider and heavier but a lot.
PD2K 115 Posted July 3, 2016 I like the Glock 30 G4 - the trigger suits me better. However nothing wrong with a Springfield...its just a personal preference for me. But Ricky_Bobby is correct re: comparison. XDS and Glock 30 are 2 totally different 45's. T Bill 649 Posted July 3, 2016 Have you ever shot a short barreled 45ACP? If this is your first rodeo with the 45ACP I would go rent a full size and a short barrel and see how they feel to you. Jumping into a short barrel 45ACP may not be what you hope it would be.

Jumping into a short barrel 45ACP may not be what you hope it would be. I haven't shot a .45. I've done .22, 9mm, and .38/.357. Want to try something new and since my other guns are "full size" I wanted to try a compact in a .45. Basically I have permits to use and cash burning a hole in my pocket for a new toy! JayWilling 33 Posted July 3, 2016 Short barrel 45 is a handful, but I enjoy shooting them. I rarely shoot 22 because it feels like a bb gun to me. For me 45 is my favorite handgun caliber. I don't own a Glock but I've fired several models many times. I think the 30 is a nice gun and is fun to shoot, but it is not small. It's like trying to hide a sandwich in your pocket instead of a power bar. I do have an XDS and I have carried it on trips out of state. The XDs conceals very well. I also find it a decent shooter, and I do go regularly and shoot a hundred rounds just to stay ok with it. As I understand, it was designed from the ground up for the 45 round so it handles the power very well, and it's one of the most balanced small pistols I've ever shot. Mine has been very reliable except for lead semi-wad cutters. It likes ball or defensive ammo. Trigger is fairly crisp and with the 7 round mag I can be pretty accurate. With the 5 round mag it can be accurate but it takes concentration. On the plus side, with the 5 round mag no one can see it on my person. Overall I'd say the Glock 30 feels like a larger gun. If you're looking for "different" the XDs is a better bet.
Gunnz 49 Posted July 4, 2016 Never shot the xds in 45, but I did own an xds in 9mm and HATED the trigger on it. I shot the pistol so poorly I had to sell it.

nnjrescue1 14 Posted July 26, 2016 Anyone shoot or own an XDS .40? Im thinking about it. I already have an ultra compact .45 V10, so dont really want another .45. Or should I look into the 9? Seems like a lot of people claim they have trouble with the XDS. Presumably due to the size?

nnjrescue1 14 Posted July 27, 2016 damn - I've got my heart set on the FDE. Wish they made the .40 cal in FDE. Will prob go with the 9 and keep my .45 ultra compact 1911.
Tadgh45 0 Posted July 28, 2016 I have a Glock 30 and love it even though it is a little bulky. It shoots well and I find it has less felt recoil (to me) than my Glock 23. I am however considering the Glock 30S because the grip is slightly smaller.
wadezky 8 Posted July 28, 2016 And after all my reading on the 'net and people's input, I might go with the CZ 75 compact instead (and stay with 9mm), I have the CZ SP-01 and love it like crazy, so my next trip to a store I'll have to handle the 75 compact and see what I think. And then there's a Walther....... This is impossible!!
Gunnz 49 Posted July 28, 2016 I have a Shield performance center and love it, it's my regular ccw when out of state.... I also have a CZ P01, (same size as compact) and might carry it in the winter, it's an great shooter.

P01 is aluminum though, for some reason I love the steel gun, that's why I was leaning towards the 75 compact. I'm sure I can't go wrong either way. I still like my 340PD with boot grip and belt clip, no holster, a lot especially when it's super hot in FL.
