I'm officially out of room in my safe :*(

Recommended Posts

I need a vault I have three 64's packed. I'm waiting for black Friday to buy another.

Build a room. Even I only have one safe.

Damn you guys have a ton of guns lol. I only keep maybe 2-3 pistols and 2-3 rifles at any time.

I have a problem, and need a 12 step program. Although I haven't been buying as many as usual lately. I have a lot of Mosins, some really rare ones. But for a while my neighbor across the street was an FFL out of his house. I used to give him $3k and he would order me 3 crates of Mosins at a time. Think i bought 8 all together. I kept all the really nice ones and sold the rest. I have about 60 or so still.

I have a lot of other stuff too. But the Russian stuff is my weakness.

Next house will have a basement. I'm going to excavate a room adjacent to the foundation, pour walls and a roof, with rebar, then burry it. Blow out a doorway from the existing basement with a vault door. And probably hide it with some kind of built in bookcase that slides out of the way or something to that effect. I'll keep one decoy safe with some shit in it in case "they" ever come knocking. If my current house didn't have a crawl space built on ledge rock I would have already borrowed my buddies backhoe and built one.

That safe in the picture is sick! How the he'll do you move that thing?

Looks fake.. Dont think theyd design a safe that requires a ladder to open/get to the keypad, LOL.

It's real. It's the Champion "big yellow safe" it's about 12' tall. And I've seen one in person.

that's the one that's currently in the running for me to get to replace my "26 gun" safe.

it's amazing how hard it is to find choices in 36" wide and at least 72" high safes.

I ran into that issue myself.

I got the 35 or 36 gun stack on safe, in the end.

Its weird that they dont make safes taller. I'm like 5'5 and can barely see the top shelf of my safe, i have to bend over to see most of it.

It's a ridiculous design. They SHOULD all come standard @ 6' tall, as that would also allow for more ammo storage on top while adding fairly minimal weight. I wonder who designs these things.

They should also have them available without fireproofing.. I dont know why they ALL have some level of fireproofing. I was limited by weight so i wish they made them without it. In a real fire, 30 minute fireproofing wont do much, IMO.

Weight and fireproofing is what makes it "safe".

False. Fireproofing isn't standard in all safes.

Safe is determined by the actual safety of it. Meaning how long it takes someone to break into it. They have actual ratings based on time.

True. But very few residential security containeds are actually burglary rated. I was being overly simplistic. Generally, the safer it is and more fire rated it is, the more it weighs. I didn't mean to lead on to say that the fireproofing necessary adds to the time it would take to break into it (although it could )

    • We never let then inside.  Last re-evaluation was 6-7 years ago, wife politely told him that he was welcome to look around the property and he could look in the windows. He saw two white resin chairs in the basement and told her that this constituted a finished basement. And everything in the basement is bare concrete/ cinder block, and mechanical systems. Nothing finished about it. Ultimately he relented and I'm sure that was a ploy to coerce us to allow him in
    • I use an Alien Gear cloak tuck (IWB) with my Shield.  Neoprene back - in the summer it does feel warm but doesn't rub or chafe.   https://aliengearholsters.com/ruger-lcp-iwb-holster.html Could also go with the shapeshift as it has multiple options - OWB/IWB, Appendix... https://aliengearholsters.com/ruger-lcp-shapeshift-modular-holster-system.html
    • The  12-1 compression ratio L88 is long gone. This is GM's updated version. it might be  pump gas 10-1 engine The L88 was a aluminum head  cast iron block engine with a nasty solid lifter cam. the  ZL1 was a all aluminum  12 or 13-1 compression ratio engine with the best forged internal parts at the time and had a even nastier solid lifter cam
    • I like my regular carry holster.  OWB leather with belt slots.  I've been carrying for over a year and it was comfortable and I hardly even noticed it.  I carry (usually) a Ruger LCP .380 - light, convenient, tiny. But...today I ended up taking it off an leaving it home after a few hours. I cut down a big maple tree a few days ago and I spent 3/4 of today loading and unloading firewood into the back of my truck and a trailer.  It was a warm day, I was dirty, tired, sweaty, and my holster was rubbing against my side.  The leather and exposed metal snap was no longer comfortable. I'm thinking about adding a layer of something to that part of the holster to soften the contact.  Anything insulating will make it worse.  I don't want a sweaty, hotter holster against my skin.  I'm imagining something thin, breathable, that won't absorb sweat, and softer than leather, metal snaps, and rivets.   But I have no idea what would work. I'm hoping somebody else has already figured this out and I can just do what they did. Any suggestions appreciated.
    • Check the primers on the ammo you didn't shoot yet. Are they fully seated? If the primer is not just below flush with the back of the case, the first hit can seat it better then the second hit ignites it.
