Storage Unit

Recommended Posts

Sort of related topic: I've been wondering about this for awhile... wouldn't you think some enterprising Pennsy gun range(s) near the NJ border would add a wall of rentable gun lockers before Gov. Christie exits stage left?... in anticipation of yet more firearms becoming illegal in NJ (but perhaps still being legal in PA)? That seems like a "no brainer" to me.

Wouldn't this option allow a NJ resident to legally store a "NJ illegal" firearm (and still enjoy it) not too far from home?... and avoid a forced sale?... or being a bold (or foolish depending on your POV) "instant felon"?

And it's just more income streams for the ranges: money from the locker rentals, money from increased memberships from NJ folks, etc. Makes sense to me, but admittedly, I have less grasp than many of you of the legal quagmire that is NJ gun law.

^Not a bad idea, but i think the issue is PA gun laws; NOT nj gun laws. Can we purchase firearms and keep them in PA if they are non-compliant? PA may insist they be legal in the state in which the owner resides; i'm not sure how their stuff works.
If its Kosher, i can see it being a great idea... If AR's are banned i'd probably rent in PA, seeing as driving to PA to shoot is the same distance as me driving to ft dix to shoot.

There are a S. load of  non NJ compliant firearms and accessories own by NJ resident living a free life in PA. PA don't care.  They have been there since the last gun ban in NJ went into effect.

Federal law requires a long gun purchased in another state be compliant with the laws of both states. If your a NJ resident the long gun you buy in PA be compliant with NJ law.

They were referring to ones already legally owned.

Well, we're talking about if there is an AWB in NJ; can we keep the now-banned and therefore non-compliant rifles in PA and still be legal?

Is the rule of it being compliant in both states only valid when purchasing NEW firearms??

Yes. PA could care less about NJ Draconian laws. Only reason buying non compliant rifle is an issue is because of Federal NICS check and Federal licensing. If the rifle is legal in PA it can remain in PA and no one is going to bother you.

I know several people who moved their ARs, AKs, and other non-compliant rifles to their summer house in PA. NJ law stops at NJ borders. If you have something that becomes illegal in NJ you can move it to any state where it's legal.

On the other hand, say they ban all ARs in NJ. You as a NJ resident won't be able to buy any AR in PA as a NJ resident.

Buy your stripped lowers now and sock 'em away.  Build them when you are ready out of state and keep them there.

I know of a person who inherited his uncle's M1 carbine last year, a NJ banned item, beautiful Rockola.  Gun was in PA and he is a NJ resident.  Perfectly legal as long as gun stays out of NJ.

As a side discussion and I think it may have been dicussed before but not answered?...what about the legality of leaving a firearm in PA at family or friends house? Anyone know how PA would view that? Like what if a make an arrangement with a friend a rent a bedroom from him for a dollar, put a safe in it and now have a safehouse for my guns?

If you put a safe in a friend's house and they did not have access to a key or combination no transfer has taken place. Same as a storage unit. No need for a phony dollar a year lease. No need for a trust.

    • We never let then inside.  Last re-evaluation was 6-7 years ago, wife politely told him that he was welcome to look around the property and he could look in the windows. He saw two white resin chairs in the basement and told her that this constituted a finished basement. And everything in the basement is bare concrete/ cinder block, and mechanical systems. Nothing finished about it. Ultimately he relented and I'm sure that was a ploy to coerce us to allow him in

    • The  12-1 compression ratio L88 is long gone. This is GM's updated version. it might be  pump gas 10-1 engine The L88 was a aluminum head  cast iron block engine with a nasty solid lifter cam. the  ZL1 was a all aluminum  12 or 13-1 compression ratio engine with the best forged internal parts at the time and had a even nastier solid lifter cam
    • I like my regular carry holster.  OWB leather with belt slots.  I've been carrying for over a year and it was comfortable and I hardly even noticed it.  I carry (usually) a Ruger LCP .380 - light, convenient, tiny. But...today I ended up taking it off an leaving it home after a few hours. I cut down a big maple tree a few days ago and I spent 3/4 of today loading and unloading firewood into the back of my truck and a trailer.  It was a warm day, I was dirty, tired, sweaty, and my holster was rubbing against my side.  The leather and exposed metal snap was no longer comfortable. I'm thinking about adding a layer of something to that part of the holster to soften the contact.  Anything insulating will make it worse.  I don't want a sweaty, hotter holster against my skin.  I'm imagining something thin, breathable, that won't absorb sweat, and softer than leather, metal snaps, and rivets.   But I have no idea what would work. I'm hoping somebody else has already figured this out and I can just do what they did. Any suggestions appreciated.
    • Check the primers on the ammo you didn't shoot yet. Are they fully seated? If the primer is not just below flush with the back of the case, the first hit can seat it better then the second hit ignites it.
