  1. Nothing catches 9mm brass better that 40S&W cases!
  2. Anything that would have blown apart a perfectly good barrel, would have definitely caused other issues. Squibs don't cause damage because 1 bullet hits another, they cause damage due to over-pressure which happens the entire length of action. Blown case, blown extractor, stuck case , up to and including broken action and receiver parts. As far as accuracy being affected, well that can easily be tested; but I wouldn't jump to say that should have been immediately noticed. If the shooter was just plinking offhand at 25 yards, then it would likely produce enough accuracy to not be obvious.
  3. Metal problem at end of barrel (inclusion, void, crack), split the end of the barrel and blew out the dovetail. A squib that has enough oompf to bulge and split the barrel like that would have certainly made the shooter aware that something not right just happened.
  4. Completely opposite for me at EWR, up until last year, I was always asked to open my rifle case. It could be because I have an older Kalispell case with a weird locking mechanism. That just goes to show you how consistent TSA can be .
  5. They do seem to make metal projectiles for airsoft guns. I have seen some forums whose members use them for "home defense".
  6. Love Buffalo Bore! I've used those loads for sidearm in bear country, they are quite a handful. I also shot some of their 125gr. JHC, muzzle blast was exceptional. Lately, I've used their Outdoorsman line in both 40S&W and 9mm. A hunting guide recently used the 9mm in a compact S&W to take down a charging grizzly. While you'll get very good penetration with them, you might get better hunting results using an stout expanding bullet like an A-frame or Barnes.
  7. Best to use a keyed lock, especially at EWR. My last trip out (last year), they took my guncase to the screening room, and requested the keys. I told them that I would open it for them, to which they said that I was not allowed in the screening room. Now, I have traveled out of EWR dozens of times with guns, and have always been in the room to open the case; but on this occasion, they were adamant that I couldn't go in. Rather than miss my flight and argue, I just gave them the key.
  8. I don't know if you were cleverly referencing "The Punisher" series, but I've seen it a bunch of times on the show.
  9. Glocks are easier to completely disassemble. M&Ps have more parts, use roll pins and require removal of the rear sight for access to the safety plunger/spring. They are both equal when it comes to general field stripping for cleaning.
  10. Weatherby Mark V Deluxe in .300 Wby Mag. Saw the ads in the 80s G&A mags and wanted one from that day on. I've used it with great success over the years, and it will be passed down. http://wby-tv.com/videos/weatherby-vs-masterlock/
  11. To own, no. To use the range, absolutely. Also, RSO's should be empowered to remove any unsafe shooters. And encouraged to step-in prior to anything unsafe occurring. Sweep anybody, with a loaded or unloaded gun, bye-bye. Shoot the walls/ceiling/floor, bye-bye. Lose control of your firearm, bye-bye.
  12. FWIW - 99% of the hunting ammo that is used in NJ is a hollowpoint of some sort (obviously not birdshot/buckshot). As a matter of fact, NJ Fish and Game regulations specifically call for " Max. 80 grain Soft or Hollow point " rifle ammo for varmint hunting. Just my opinion, but I consider any expanding, hollow-cavity bullet a hollow-point; whether or not is is labeled as such, or has a plastic tip. You can buy solid, lathe-turned match bullets, but they will not be cheap and very poor for defense.
  13. From what I've gleaned from folks online; a mount should never straddle between your receiver and the handguard. Something about even the very best handguards have a good amount of flex in them, hurting accuracy/scope/mounts/receiver. I could be wrong, and if I am, I'm sure someone will chime in and correct me. Otherwise, I've only heard good things about Aero mounts. Warne and Burris also get great reviews in that price range.

  15. Lol - I need shoot-n-see targets and a 60x spotter to do the same. Even then, holes on lines are hard to make out.
  16. Best bet would be to use a camera. You will not easily see .22 holes at 300 yards with even the very best spotting scopes. You can get a system that reads 1 mile away for just a fraction of what a mid-range scope+tripod costs.
  17. How about simple possesion of standard capacity magazines for all of those g19s and g26s that seem so popular with off-duty carry.

    Which 1911 to get?

Don't overlook the newer Colt Competition, looks like a really nice pistol.
  19. Well, if you have a bear ripping-up your garbage every night, then just sprinkle some cayenne powder in their and it won't happen again. Or, get a bear proof can. If you have a bear walking thru your yard every day, then chase them away with an air horn. They'll be hibernating soon enough. If you want to shoot a bear, then go get yourself a hunting license and kill the bear. If it's acting aggressively, call Fish and Game and have them deal with it.
  20. Having been a member of many hunting forums almost since their inception, I have yet to see posts that cheer for anti-gun legislation. As a matter of fact, just quickly perusing several NJ hunting forums, there is a clear opposition to anything anti-gun; from state laws to boycotting anti-gun companies. What I'm saying, there should not be a "us vs them" mentality, since you'll find that many folks are both.
  21. Most hunters that I know share an enjoyment of shooting and guns in general. Thinking that because they don't shoot "black" rifles and hi-cap handguns, they are dense and deserve to be punished is both inaccurate and really does nothing but empower the opposition. I don't really understand the animus towards hunters by some on this forum. FYI - the hunting community is also under constant attack by both the state and very well funded anti-hunting groups like PETA and HSUS. Bear hunt bans, new hunting and trapping restrictions, dealing with activists in the woods, etc., is nothing new to most "Fudds".
  22. I'm a fiend for a good Old Fashioned, or it's sister cocktail, the Manhattan. If you do make one, don't skip the muddling, use a fresh orange and never, ever forget the cherry.
  23. The cynic in me says that no one would leave behind 2 guns like this unless: They were just used in a murder and purposely left behind. -or- I was being set-up by the man
  24. I got the Sordins a while back and can't say that I'm not completely pleased with them. The gel cups feel weird, but are comfortable all day long.
  25. Contrary to popular belief, there is much less food for deer in "real" woods than there is in suburbia. The combination of forest edge, crops and suburban landscaping has caused a huge population increase. Add in the steady decrease in hunters' numbers over the years, and you have a growing problem with deer populations. NJ hunting seasons are about as liberal as they get, with many areas allowing an unlimited amount of deer to be taken between Sept. and March.
