So what ammo are we carrying or allowed to carry?  Hollow point, ball, expanding tip, Critical Defense? This would be for 9mm and .380.

I really like the way Critical Defense performs in .380, so that was my first choice, so that's a plus. I'm going to have to look at Critical Duty and Critical Defense in 9mm to see which one looks to have better performance in a short barrel.

I believe Hornady has already done that performance test for you!  Defense was designed to perform better in a short barrel and Duty for the longer one found in full size pistols.

Look at the expansion with the Defense, Duty sucks in that test!

I think I knew this answer already, but I needed to confirm. Now it's confirmed,  Defense it is.

Edit: IDK, that Critical Duty 135+p looks pretty good.

That's what I carry. It is also listed as FBI duty ammo.

Same. I'm also not as concerned with ballistics as much as cycling reliability.

Big fan of Lehigh Defense Xtreme Defense in .380.  Underwood Ammunition offers these in a few different weights/velocities.  Excellent penetration characteristics for the wee-caliber.  Cycles without issue in both my .380s. 
Just another alternative worth considering.

.380 Critical Defense for my G42

9mm Critical Duty 135+p for my P365
