NJ2AS would like to thank Anthony Colandro, CEO of Gun For Hire (GFH), the premier firearms training facility in New Jersey, for agreeing to provide a Florida CCW station during the November 17th meeting at the American Legion Post 129, 2025 Church Ave., Toms River, NJ (details in link above).

Members and non-members will be able fill out the application, have i.d. photos taken, have fingerprints taken and get your application notarized all at the same time.

To meet the training requirement, bring one of the following and you will have a complete packet ready to drop in the mail:

* a copy of any NRA or State firearms safety training certificate

* a copy of your Hunter Education Card

* a copy of your orders calling you to active duty if you are active duty military or DD-214 if you are a veteran

If you don’t have the training yet, you will be able to sign up for GFH’s next NRA First Steps class at the event.

Cost is only $25 for NJ2AS members and $50 for non-members. You can join NJ2AS on the spot to get the savings.

You will also need a check or money order for the license fee of $117.00 payable to the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services.

There are two great reasons to have a FL CCW permit:

1. You can carry in 31 states even though you are not a FL resident (http://licgweb.doacs...aled_carry.html).

2. If a national reciprocity bill is passed by congress and is signed into law, and includes non-resident permits, you will instantly be able to carry in all 50 states, NYC, Washington D.C. and all U.S. Territories, yes that would include NJ.

Another important reason to apply for a CCW is to help the good statistics and support states that have in place a licensing system.

So for those of us that need a class or need to replenish funds, we can complete the packet and add the class cert or funds to it later then drop it in the mail?

Yes, or you can take the class before Nov 17th and bring a copy of the certificate. If anyone is in that situation, if you can, please support GFH by taking the class with them, since they have been gratious enough to support us with this service. I took the SORA class with them. It was top notch.

is a hunting license proof of hunter education? cant get it without going to one. which was over 20 years ago for me. who knows where the actual cert. is.

This is the specific requirement:

· any hunter education or hunter safety course approved by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission or a similar agency in another state;

You could try. If it's not enough, they will call you or send you a letter and ask for something additional.

You can get a duplicate. I may have to obtain one if my dad can't find mine in his records.

Talk about timing! I literally signed up for the FL CCW packet to be sent to me last night!

Okay. For someone like myself who does not have a Hunters License, nor a FOID or PP (yet fingers crossed) or any of the other requirements listed in the OP, how would I go about getting a Florida CCW? What would I be able to accomplish at the meeting on Nov 17th?

You will walk out of the meeting 90% complete with just one thing remaining -- the training certificate. Once you get that, just put a copy in the envelope and drop it in the mail.

Gun For Hire is running the FL CCW station at the meeting. You should be able to sign up for their next NRA First Steps Class at the table. If not, you can do so on line. Or you can do the training before the meeting. There's still time: http://gunforhire.com/firearms_calendar.html It looks like there's a class Friday 11/12 and another Sunday, 11/14.

I got my FL CCW on my own. If I knew then what I know now, I would have done it this way -- saves many hours of effort and costs about the same.

    • If you’re going to VA, buy 2 radios.  Program one for here and one for there.  If you guys are buying Baofeng radios do yourself a favor and get a tactical antenna for it,it’ll extend your reach.
    • Both our memories are a bit lacking. 3 bystanders were hit by NYPD bullets and 6 were hit by fragments at the Empire State Building shooting. The bullets later were determined to have passed through the bad guy as I said. He was not a big guy. The police fired 16 rds and 7 hit the bad guy.  Spray and pray?  I think not.  These officers fired until the threat was stopped and everyone is moving. Have you ever tried to hit a moving target whilst you're moving.  If you watch the video from where the police encounter him, the BG draws his gun from his bag, NYPD guys shoot, and the BG hit the ground is about 2 or 3 seconds.  The closest officer is maybe 12 feet or less.  The closest cover are those concrete flower pots.  If the officers chose to take cover before drawing the BG would have had a chance to shoot at least one officer. Know your target and beyond?  Agree 100%.  However, this by the Empire State Building at 9 am during the week.  There are bystanders and traffic in every direction.  The officers had a choice of doing what they did or letting the BG shoot them with his 1911 and shoot someone else. I think they made the right choice and the same one I would have made.  The officers exercised the best option in protecting themselves and the public. The first video is the police shooting.  The second is more detailed and gives you a lot of background information on the shooter. One thing this shows is if NYPD had to use fmj undoubtedly more bystanders would have been wounded perhaps killed.  NJ's hollowpoint law. only creates more danger to the public.
