gunnarsport 13 Posted March 16, 2011 Hi, When applying for BOTH FID and permit, is there any truth that BOTH references you use nowe need to have the forum notarized?? My PD did not tell me anything about this and the reference form does NOT say anything about this on the forum. Do it depend on the town?? If so , this whole thing may not even be worth it anymore. axeman_g 128 Posted March 16, 2011 Do not give in. You can get the forms notarized at any bank you have an account with or the twp personnel will do it.
gunnarsport 13 Posted March 16, 2011 Sure, But what I am asking is if my PD did not mention is at all as I requirement, I guess its not required?? Also, what is the protocol for the reference forms being completed? I handed the 2 forms to my references, they gladly completed, signed and handed back to me. Are they suppose to mail them back to the PD without me seeing it, or is it OK if I bring them back with the rest of the paperwork??

I had a reference that faxed a copy in and my PD accepted it with no problem.
Bob B 103 Posted March 16, 2011 Sounds like it's not a requirement in your town. If they need to be notarized, it would say it on the form.
axeman_g 128 Posted March 16, 2011 If they dont ask for it then you dont need it.
Mr.Shoot_It_All 13 Posted March 17, 2011 First town I did it on didn't need em. This current town does. It's easy enough any bank has a notary just nudge our references to get it done is what I did
Maksim 1,504 Posted March 17, 2011 It is not required by the state, but some towns do. They would let you know if they want them notarized. This will be fought.
tony357 386 Posted March 17, 2011 post up a section on towns requiring notary and our NJ2AS group can call them.. sounds odd this would need to be done the town can easily check their.. besides this is not about them it is a background check on the person submitting application. Anselmo 87 Posted March 22, 2011 Do not give in. You can get the forms notarized at any bank you have an account with or the twp personnel will do it. If it needs to be notarized, your references will have to schlep to a bank or wherever. Your references will have to sign in front of the notary if you don't know the notary. e3822 0 Posted November 2, 2011 Most UPS and FedEx Kinko stores also have a notary public working there.

rdsmith3 19 Posted November 2, 2011 I just started this process on October 13. In my township (Roxbury) the township personnel send out the reference forms, which are then mailed back directly to the township. Neither of my references said they had to get them notarized. I never see or touch the forms.
PeteF 1,044 Posted November 2, 2011 Cranford has the notary but only on new FID cards. I found it actually saved time, since the PD did not have to mail out the forms, wait for them to be filled out and then wait for them to be mailed back in. Getting something notarized is easy. Take your references out for a beer, on the way stop by a bank you have an account with. The bank does the notary for free and you have the forms all set to go back to the PD. Now while that we do have this crappy system and we do need to have reference letters I could go with notarized only on the condition I can take the letters to the person, have them do it with me at a notary and I could return them, I could have that done in a day and save a lot of time, this would be an option only over having them mailed out. But to make my real feelings known, like I said I only would go with this as an option only while we have to go through this BS, I feel the NICS check at the time of purchase is all that should be required.
