McMaster 7 Posted March 18, 2011 Did I not post that correctly? I mean... you can click on it and it enlarges it but I see some guys have large photos of rifles in their post. IDK.

vjf915 456 Posted March 18, 2011 I would LOVE to have a rifle like that, just not feeling the pistol grip or stock. Awesome rifle though, I hope to have one in my collection someday.....probably won't be able to afford one for a LOOONG time....
McMaster 7 Posted March 18, 2011 Funny... I agree about the stock and the grip. I have the original Vltor butt stock that I'm gonna put back on... it's telescopic, I have to pin it. The grip is the grip that came with the stock. I agree... it's a little goofy. not crazy about it.
vjf915 456 Posted March 18, 2011 Hey it's your gun, so it's whatever you like. The stock itself doesn't fit my tastes.....the gun, totally different story
Ray Ray 3,566 Posted March 18, 2011 Gotta agree with VJ, the gun right out the box is perfect for me. But I applaud you for being different. Thanks for the post and pic bro.
McMaster 7 Posted March 18, 2011 No... I definitely prefer the Vltor butt stock but its telescopic and I had no easy way to perminately pin it so I took it off. It looked better with the Vltor, felt better and matched my LOP better. I have to get that back on there. The grip is generic... I can take it or leave it... I definitely don't love it. But the rifle is top notch. It's hard to beat... I'll put it up against pretty much anything. It's powerful AND accurate. And the Troy MCS just puts it over the top. Only downfall is .308 is expensive. The cheapest I've found so far is roughly .47 cents a round... which isn't bad for the range. But compared to other bulk rifle ammo thats still kind of expensive. Great, great rifle though. Out of my 3 rifles it's my favorite.
Ray Ray 3,566 Posted March 18, 2011 How much is the steel 308 ammo go for? I've scene it used on other 308s, I wasn't sure if you shoot only quality stuff.
bbk 188 Posted March 18, 2011 I like it, a lot. Biggest thing that scares me is not the price of the rifle (as that would simply be an investment and justified), but the price per round to feed it! Same thing that keeps me away from beauties like the MWS I have had the chance to shoot the SOCOM before (both stock and kitted like yours), and I love it. McMaster 7 Posted March 18, 2011 Oh... you guys were talking about not liking the stock itself NOT the butt stock. I misunderstood. Oh... the Troy stock is a major upgrade IMHO. Amongst other things it creates a single plane and full length top rail which gives the shooter better alignment of the sights. It definitely creates an AR feel to the weapon. The original SOCOM stock is... well... you know what it is. It's a classic but it's not an ergonomic weapons system. It's a matter of prefernec though. No offense to the OG M14 and Garand guys out there. Those rifle stocks are classics, no doubt.
McMaster 7 Posted March 18, 2011 You can't feed it steel ammo. Not recommended. When I contacted Springfield they specifically said, shoot what you want but definitely don't shoot steel or poly coated ammo. That's a no no apparently.
Ray Ray 3,566 Posted March 18, 2011 Doesn't Hogue make a great stock for this rifle? I actually like the rail-less version but I'll take yours sir, thanks!
vjf915 456 Posted March 18, 2011 I'm sorry, I typed stock....I did mean just the buttstock. If I cover up the pistol grip and buttstock, I think it's sexy as hell.
Tactical Monkey 51 Posted March 18, 2011 Nice boom stick
Cylinder Head 22 Posted March 18, 2011 I had one like that in FDE and loved it (you can find pics of it on here). Problem was it was WAY TOO HEAVY. Great trigger though and problem free for me. If I did it again it would be an LRB with a composite stock.
RecessedFilter 222 Posted March 18, 2011 What's that weigh in at? It looks like it would be 20lbs or something, looks like a tank..
Krdshrk 3,878 Posted March 18, 2011 Personally I prefer a SOC16 more like a M1A Scout. This is more like an EBR. Still nice though.
Cylinder Head 22 Posted March 18, 2011 What's that weigh in at? It looks like it would be 20lbs or something, looks like a tank.. Mine weighed in at about 20 with aimpoint and fully loaded 15 rounder. Just way too much. My SR-15 weighs in at 8.5 fully optioned.
