Recommended Posts

You have to be a Canuck. :(

$320 canadian dollars for a refurb SVT. Thats what... the equivalent of a happy meal in USD?

Why don't we have such a shipment of these rifles yet?

Sad to say Jon the Canadian Dollar is stonger than the US Dollar...

I was being facetious about that part, however, it still remains that $320 for an SVT is so cheap, its silly. Even with the $300 first class airfare they charge to ship plus some ATF form fees, if you could import several (like a NJGF group buy), it would come out to quite the bargain still.

But there's no way for us to import them is there?

I saw a thread on the Lugerforum that give some insight to importing guns from other countries, apparently it can be done, but there are procedures and pitfalls, not necessarily a simple task. I would imagine you would need to take possession in Canada legally first, then import them here, how that could be done, I don't know.

If you figure this out, let me know, I would take an SVT and more importantly a semi MP44 clone http://www.marstar.ca/gf-SSD/SSD-BD-MP44.shtmthat I've seen for sale up there for around $2700. This is the same German import that PTR was selling (PTR 44) for $5000.

EDIT: I tried to post the link directly to the thread but can't seem to figure out how to do it.

Well yes and no. If you were importing them because you are moving to the US that would be less of a problem. If you're going up there to get them imported you would be better served by getting a licensed importer to do it for you. State and Commerce get involved and you have to be concerned with International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). If you were doing it yourself you would have to get a license (I think its a couple thousand for that) and then you have to pay an application fee, which ahs to be paid whether it gets approved or not.

All those "savings" would soon get eaten up.

doing a quick search...

How-To

Import/Export FAQs

Q: May a licensed dealer who does not have an importer’s license make an occasional importation?

Yes. A licensed dealer may make an occasional importation of a firearm for a non-licensee or for the licensee’s personal use (not for resale). The licensee must first submit an ATF Form 6, Part I to ATF for approval. The licensee may then present the approved Form 6 and completed ATF Form 6A to U.S. Customs and Border Protection. Contact the Bureau of ATF, Firearms and Explosives Imports Branch for forms, or download them from the ATF Web page at http://www.atf.gov/forms/firearms/.

so my quick understanding is that any FFL can fill out the paperwork. so maybe if you can get enough people to join maybe the cost wont be as bad?
