Quote

Greetings, institutions of the media.

We are Anonymous.

The events transpiring within Wall Street have caught our eye.

It seems that the government and federal agencies enjoy enforcing the law a little bit too much. They instate unjust laws as mindless automatons, blindly following orders with soulless precision.

We witness the government enforcing the laws that punish the 99 percent while allowing the 1 percent to escape justice, unharmed, for their crimes against the people.

We have observed this same government failing to enforce even the minimal legal restraints of Wall Street's abuses. This government who has willingly ignored the greed at Wall Street has even bailed out the perpetrators that have caused our crisis.

We will not stand by and watch the system take over our way of life.

We the people shall stand against the government's inaction.

We the people will not be witnesses to your corruption and ill-gotten profits.

We will not labor for your leisure.

We will not assist you in any way.

This is why we choose to declare our war against the New York Stock Exchange. We can no longer stay silent as the population is being exploited and forced to make sacrifices in the name of profit.

We will show the world that we are true to our word. On Oct. 10, NYSE shall be erased from the Internet. On Oct. 10, expect a day that will never, ever be forgotten.

Vox Populi, Vox Anon.

The Voice of The People is The Voice of Anonymous.

We are Legion. We are the 99 percent.

We do not forgive. We do not forget.

Wall Street: Expect us.

BEFORE YOU GUYS FLIP OUT OVER ANONYMOUS:

Anonymous is not a left wing political organization.

Anonymous is not the devil.

Anonymous are not hackers.

Anonymous is a bunch of twentysomething year old stoners who frequent 4chan.org's /b/ board. (NSFW)

They make these videos in between posting "MY Little Pony" memes and "you fap, you lose" threads

The name Anonymous comes from the fact that if you post there without a username it says you are "Anonymous" in the name field

They like to "DDOS" websites which is basically just spamming a website with requests until it gets taken down temporarily.

Anonymous does things "for the lulz" and are mostly full of themselves, these videos of them with the Guy Fawkes masks and cheesy robot voice have been going on for years now.

Anonymous has no roster anyone can say they are "anonymous" therefore if you take what they say seriously, you are not very bright.

then I guess there is no concern for alarm at all.. and I suppose that the stuff I was thinking about was just denial of service stuff? I honestly had no idea.. which is why I asked..

Actually, Anon has a few people behind them that know what they're doing. True, most of them run dDoS attacks but a very select few know the ins and outs of the internet and are able to acquire all kinds of information on a whim. While I wouldn't worry to much about the bulk of Anon's 'members' its the ones who are so hardcore in their beliefs of taking down the system you need to worry about.

Yes. Their "attacks" on BoA, Paypal, Sony, Scientology, etc. consist of nothing more than DDOS'ing their servers, resulting in a few hours of downtime. Most people have no idea what even happened, i.e. Sony just told people the site was down due to "server issues"

Of course that doesn't stop them from making shitty, long widned Youtube videos about how they're taking down the banking system

Also, no worries about asking. I can understand why you did, because the media LOVES to make a big deal out of them. I guess it scares the hell out of old people or something so they do it for ratings.

But as an asshole who's been browsing the bowels of the web for over a decade now, I'm not impressed by a bunch of stoners who download Tor/Vidalia and use a BotNet and call themselves 1337 h4xx0rz

isn't anonymous actually responsible for a lot of **** on the internet side of things? like didn't they actually pull some **** off?

unless I am a little confused.. this could be a little bit of a situation..

Usually when they say they will do something they follow through. I'm just wondering what scale it will be on, if anything does in fact happen. Chances are it will most likely be denial of service attacks. That's usually what they are.

This is going to be hilarious, they've just ruined themselves. Do they think the NYSE is something that would be anything but extremely well protected? In writing that they're going to do something and then not following through they'll look even dumber.

When you mess with 100s of billions of dollars trading hands, you'll find yourself staring down the wrong end of a SBR at 4am in the morning. If you're lucky they won't just plug you on the spot. These idiots have no idea the storm that will come for them and some stupid botnet won't protect 'em either. I would guess that every botnet is penetrated already and the moment an issuing command comes, they'll know who owns it. Woe betide the stupid schmuck that issues the go command.

Eh, I wouldn't treat Anon like a joke. While they have their roots in places like 4chan (where the term "Anonymous" has it's supposed origins... anybody who is familiar with 4chan would understand), Reddit, etc, Anon has become a multi-tier threat capable of quite a bit. While DDOS is their calling card, there have been other (unverified) claims of attacks coming from people affiliated with Anon.

I said it a few years ago when Anon started making waves (when I was still in the service and involved in the IC, when CYBERCOM was first being created) that they were delving into the deep end... and that I didn't think they would be ridiculous and stupid enough... and then they started attacking Visa, Amazon, BOA, Chase, public CIA sites, etc. While they have claimed, officially, that they were not involved with some of those attacks, its not like Anonymous is a collective group with some council members or something. It's like the Guy Fawkes mask (hence a symbol for them), where anybody uses the name as a means to an end.

So, while Anon has officially said that they are not behind the threat to Wall St, I don't think it is a threat to be taken lightly as other members or people just masquerading as Anon, who are more than capable, might still pull this off come next Monday.

This is just my opinion, but I doubt that they will be massively successful. It's one thing to attack a company that caters to the masses... it's another thing to attack an institution propped up by the wealthiest people in the world. As it has been said, if they do decide to go through with it, they'll find themselves up against the FBI's cyberwarfare team, NSA, plus the military's CYBERCOM (and probably other specialists being hired out by firms). Following that would be a kick at the door.

Holder will let them go due to lack of evidence, and Napolitano will blame it all on the Tea Party.

Before you make these sorts of comments, I think you should visit http://www.4chan.org/b/ from a non-work computer without any children around.

Welcome to /b/, an imageboard where a bunch of guys sit on the computer stoned and roll dice to see what they jerk off to.

No, I'm not kidding.
