Hello from Warren County!

Hello everyone!

What a great site! A lot of very useful info and members here.

Just got my FID a week ago - waiting on my wife's to come thru within the next week or so. I used to shoot quite a few years ago when I was in the Navy (Sharp Shooter with a 45 (1911?) - would have gotten Expert but a case ejected up and then down the back of my shirt...ouch!) Used to do some shooting down south but military moves and such just didn't keep up with it. Finally, after the kids have grown and moved on, the wife and I are looking for some fun hobbies to do and remember how much fun it was to shoot.

I have two handgun permits waiting to be used and I think for the first purchase I'm leaning towards a Ruger MKiii Hunter. Not sure if I should go with the long or the short barrel though. Not too far from Jim Flynn's too (15 minutes maybe...) looking forward to stopping in and saying hi and seeing what he has. After the 30 day period I'll probably look for something with a bit more fire power, 9mm, 45acp or ?, I don't know yet. Once we go to a shooting range for a while we'll have a better idea on what to get. My wife is also getting two handgun permits with her FID so she can buy the right ones for her use.

Dave

Thanks for the warm welcome! And I've already taken advantage of the price request forms. :) Typically, how many responses should I get for something like a MKiii? I've got three or four...hopeing to get a few more then I have to consider the drive time and cost....and hours of operation.

Welcome to the forum.

Glad you found your new old hobby. If you know what you want to buy, I would apply for the exemption from the 30 day thing.

??? Not sure what you mean. I understand that it's 30 days between handgun purchases....is there another 'time-out' period I need to know about? :icon_e_confused:

Welcome!

You can apply for an exemption to transfer more than one HG in a 30 day period. You will need to have them waiting at your FFL before you apply since you will need the serial numbers to apply for the exemption. Not really worth it if you already have your permits and are only looking to buy 2 HG's since it will take 3-4 weeks to get the approved exemption back. If you decide in the future that you want buy multiple HG's file for an exemption.
