Does military count? Been over 10yrs since I'm out, but a lot of it still sticks in there... I didn't vote since I'm not really sure what counts and what doesn't.

Basic first aid through work.

GAPPNJ course coming up next month..

Starting to go to a friends school (Lyndhurst ATA) once we work out the financial details and schedule.

Actually considered taking (paying) for EMT type courses and I'd like more "official" training firearms wise but life has other priorities at the moment.

I would consider military training to be included and considered as the trainers are most often certified and/or are subject matter experts. While the training was mandatory and considered a Soldier skill (at least with the Army, but I could imagine there is the equivalent in other branches)-- it still required a significant amount of training time and practice to become proficient [and excel].

Jeff and I arranged for a weekday class when we were both free. I doubt that will work with your bread winning job. Let me know though.

Started shooting last February. Since then, I've taken:

GFH First Steps Shotgun

GFH Personal Protection in the Home

GFH Urban Pistol 1 (twice, I'm a slow learner)

GFH Urban Pistol 2

GFH Low Light

NRA Basic Pistol (a grueling 12 hour ordeal)

MDTS Combative Shotgun 1&2

Planning on taking a lot more training this year.

I took basic pistol at NJFA for armed security training and qualification

I also took mandatory training for my job for pistol and shotguns. this consisted of two days or so class time and a bit of range time. Qualification test again but much different from the njfa training. There was a bigger range where we had to kneel, hide behind things like a big blue mail box and shoot, then there was CAPS, which was scenario shooting on a projector. That was some neat stuff.

Hmm , thought I posted on this. I took NRA First Steps , and then the next NRA after that (2nd steps?) . I took Low Light No Light one . I'm signed up for Urban Pistol one end of April and plan to continue through all the rest of the GFH courses. Love them. I also took an intro to USPSA/IDPA this past weekend with Col. Mortimer and others at Shongum . I learned a lot , was introduced to the sporting aspect of shooting , and I feel the skills you learn there ( safety , speed and accuracy) can only help no matter what kind of shooting you are interested in.

I've now taken/signed up for the following "Firearms" specific training...

GAPP CCW FL/UT

GAPP Intermediate Pistol

GAPP Shotgun Home Defense

GAPP Personal Protection Inside/Outside the Home. (Pistol specific)

Also, I'll be working with Cameron from GAPP in the near future to earn my NRA Instructor Certification for Pistol. I know it won't be an overnight thing, but that's a goal of mine. To be both competent and confident enough to "teach" idiots, how not to be.. Idiots.

    • We never let then inside.  Last re-evaluation was 6-7 years ago, wife politely told him that he was welcome to look around the property and he could look in the windows. He saw two white resin chairs in the basement and told her that this constituted a finished basement. And everything in the basement is bare concrete/ cinder block, and mechanical systems. Nothing finished about it. Ultimately he relented and I'm sure that was a ploy to coerce us to allow him in
    • I use an Alien Gear cloak tuck (IWB) with my Shield.  Neoprene back - in the summer it does feel warm but doesn't rub or chafe.   https://aliengearholsters.com/ruger-lcp-iwb-holster.html Could also go with the shapeshift as it has multiple options - OWB/IWB, Appendix... https://aliengearholsters.com/ruger-lcp-shapeshift-modular-holster-system.html
    • The  12-1 compression ratio L88 is long gone. This is GM's updated version. it might be  pump gas 10-1 engine The L88 was a aluminum head  cast iron block engine with a nasty solid lifter cam. the  ZL1 was a all aluminum  12 or 13-1 compression ratio engine with the best forged internal parts at the time and had a even nastier solid lifter cam
    • I like my regular carry holster.  OWB leather with belt slots.  I've been carrying for over a year and it was comfortable and I hardly even noticed it.  I carry (usually) a Ruger LCP .380 - light, convenient, tiny. But...today I ended up taking it off an leaving it home after a few hours. I cut down a big maple tree a few days ago and I spent 3/4 of today loading and unloading firewood into the back of my truck and a trailer.  It was a warm day, I was dirty, tired, sweaty, and my holster was rubbing against my side.  The leather and exposed metal snap was no longer comfortable. I'm thinking about adding a layer of something to that part of the holster to soften the contact.  Anything insulating will make it worse.  I don't want a sweaty, hotter holster against my skin.  I'm imagining something thin, breathable, that won't absorb sweat, and softer than leather, metal snaps, and rivets.   But I have no idea what would work. I'm hoping somebody else has already figured this out and I can just do what they did. Any suggestions appreciated.
    • Check the primers on the ammo you didn't shoot yet. Are they fully seated? If the primer is not just below flush with the back of the case, the first hit can seat it better then the second hit ignites it.
