Qel Hoth 33 Posted January 18, 2012 As many of you know, Wikipedia is conducting a 24 hour blackout from 12:00AM 1/18 to 12:00 AM 1/19 to draw attention to SOPA/PIPA. If you want to access Wikipedia today, just disable javascript and it will work fine. If you use Firefox, I would reccommend NoScript, it lets you give temporary permissions, permanent permissions, and revoke permissions, and it's nice to have for general web browsing. DevsAdvocate 112 Posted January 18, 2012 Works fine from phones. Mobile wikipedia is unaffected. The thing that pops up is a flash script... which usually isn't used in mobile websites.

NicePants 58 Posted January 18, 2012 If people were this fired up about other issues, we might actually be able to change things in this country.
SpacemanFry 51 Posted January 18, 2012 If people were this fired up about other issues, we might actually be able to change things in this country. The sad truth is that most people are as apathetic about this as they are about most other issues. That's exactly why big internet companies/names are doing this so they can actually get people to pay attention.

Whamo 5 Posted January 19, 2012 Menendez was supporting SOPA, as if we needed another reason to dislike the clown.
Soju 153 Posted January 19, 2012 If people were this fired up about other issues, we might actually be able to change things in this country. True. This is a huge issue though, and I hope people understand the actual magnitude of it.
NicePants 58 Posted January 19, 2012 True. This is a huge issue though, and I hope people understand the actual magnitude of it. No argument here. I absolutely agree, and I did sign Google's petition.
JSF01 13 Posted January 20, 2012 From what I understand this got a couple of sponsors of the bill to stop supporting it.
SpecialK 193 Posted January 20, 2012 it's to bad people aren't this passionate about their right to defend themselves against the government, but at least they are willing to fight for their right to speak out against them.
NicePants 58 Posted January 20, 2012 it's to bad people aren't this passionate about their right to defend themselves against the government, but at least they are willing to fight for their right to speak out against them. It is pretty sad. I wonder if anything would change if the major manufacturers started to urge the community to fight against a lot of the unjust laws in this country. Of course, I doubt it would get as much coverage, and any coverage it did get would probably be labeled as "gun-nut lunatic fringe petitions government to lift ban on high capacity semi-automatic assault weapons, WHICH COINCIDENTALLY HAVE BEEN USED IN KILLINGS HERE, HERE, HERE, AND HERE."
