when_shtf 4 Posted May 25, 2012 I know everyone likes ammo cans (myself included) because they look military and they just scream "I'm a gun guy", but the truth of the matter is plastic storage cases (sealed, with handles) can be found at Walmart for cheap. Something as simple as these allow you to organize your ammo, and see what's in the case and how much you have (or need): http://www.walmart.com/ip/Sterilite-2.5-Quart-Latch-Box-Set-of-6/20699630 6 containers for less then $15. But they are not air tight/ waterproof like ammo cans are. And they dont look like they'd be as easy to carry either.

And they dont look like they'd be as easy to carry either. Not to mention they're likely to break a lot easier. Ammo is heavy, you drop one of those filled with ammo, and the thing is liable to crack, and spray rounds all over the place.

Not bad for home storage but for transport to and from the range might not be that great. No top handle that is one of the advantages of an ammo can, and the weight of them full of ammo might not do well for longevity. Either way, nice find for home dry storage.. Kaiser7 33 Posted May 26, 2012 Now that I think of it, for those who live near me (IE, West Deptford, Camden County, etc.) There's a Vietnamese guy who sells stuff at the Berlin Farmers auction Saturday and Sunday mornings. Not sure if he's there every week, but he usually sells ammo cans for $5 or less, and he's usually pretty quick to strike a deal. I bought a German flag, ammo can, Army jacket, and a patch for $15. AS350Driver 56 Posted June 11, 2012 Picked these up on the way to Bar Harbor ME. They're bigger than the fifty cal cans and were $15 each. Kittery Trading post is the name of the place, kinda like Cabelas just not as crowded and a little smaller. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk I have one of those i keep some junk in, i think they call it a 20mm can for the bigger munitions. Anyways, its HEAVY even *before* you put any ammo in it. A 50 cal can filled to the brim with ammo is a heavy SOB so i couldn't imagine what a 20mm can would weigh with full load! I can say this though, you'd better put it where you want it before you fill it though! lol
Kaiser7 33 Posted June 11, 2012 I like the 7.62 cans personally. They fit my 8mm boxes quite well, and I can fit my .22lr boxes in them as well. They're nice boxes really. I actually went to buy some ammo cans at the Berlin mart, but I got there just as the guy was closing up shop.
