Has anyone tried the 7.62x54R surplus ammo that Cabelas is selling with the wood crate? I just picked up my first 91/30 from Rayco Armory.

I love it already. The Q&A on Cabelas says it has corrosive primers and they were manufactured in 1971.

Any info would be appreciated.

I order surplus all the time from aimsurplus.com because its the same and its cheaper there.

There is also other cheaper online sources.

 

Shoots good through the mosin i have and the Romy PSL while i had it.

I shoot the same stuff. Just clean the mosin after you shoot it.

just put water down the barrel and it gets rid of the corrosive salts in it. Dont need windex or ammonia, just plain water. Then clean with hoppe's or whatever you use and oil/grease.

This is a must. However this is a valid use for WD40 to displace the water (what is was designed for). Follow this with regular cleaning. Hoppes #9 will remove corrosive salts but water does it better and is a lot cheaper.

You don't need to put water down the barrel. Hoppe's does remove the corrosive salts. Hoppe's will clean and protect, although I like to put a patch with oil after cleaning.
