Greetings from Linden, Union County

Recommended Posts

Hello, everybody!

I'm a new member here on the NJ Gun Forums. My interest in firearms had sparked within recent months, and I have used these forums as a resource for learning the in's and out's of guns and guns laws in NJ. I'm a newly converted Constitutionalist/Libertarian, which explains why I'm interested in being a well-armed citizen.

I'm in the process of filling out my application, and plan on contacting my local PD within the next day or two to figure how they want me to come in and work things out. Anyone have any suggestions for a first firearm? I'm thinking of a Ruger 10/22, as it seems to be quite reliable with lots of aftermarket parts, as well as chambering the ever-so-abundant .22LR.

Hi and Welcome to the forum.

I m sure you have found a lot of useful information already.

Do apply for a few pistol permits when you apply for the FID.

You can buy rifles and shotguns anytime with the FID but get the pistol, permits so you dont have to wait

since you want a handgun as well probably.

You dont have to spend a lot on a handgun and you can get a used one as well if budget might be an issue.

Thanks everybody. I'm looking at a rifle over a pistol because I'm not 21 yet. I figured that I'll get my FID and a nice rifle until then. Who knows if SHTF before my 21st b-day :shout: haha that would be quite unfortunate for me. Plus, the 22LR. seems to be cheap, abundant, and managable for someone who's never fired a gun before. I will definitely apply for pistol permits when the time comes.

The 10/22 takedown is an option since you can disassemble it and take it down if you re on the go

Has some deals on the takdown

Xchange1980, I know which forum member you are talking about. I replied to him on the Compliancy Project thread. I'll be sure to be proactive in getting my PD to stop dragging their feet (easier said than done, of course).

DamjanBlues, I do like the Takedown setup, but I'm a sucker for wooden stocks. Is there any advantage to the synthetic stock?

Thanks for the welcomes, guys. This forum ain't half bad.

Synthetic stock is lighter, however i reccomended the takedown because you can carry it in your backpack without anyone seeng it.

If you are a sucker for a wooden stock then by all means get yourself one...........this is not the last gun you re goign to buy anyway

Hey Hey - Welcome to the forum! Glad you found up, you'll fit right in. As for the 10/22 - I hear it's an awesome rifle and certainly is the right price point. If you've never handled a rifle before, be sure to have the sales guys and / or a seasoned friend (or forum member) show you the ropes. Better yet, take a NRA first steps pistol class at one of our training vendors!

Ahh, yes, that is definitely the appeal. I'll look into it.

There's a reason why I haven't switched my FID to Linden yet.....

Yeah, I've been worried about how long it'll take :fie: but I spoke to the records department yesterday and got my packet of forms. The officer there who I spoke to over the phone seemed very courteous. He was happy I was informed and read up on the laws, as a first time apply-er. Then when I went in to pick up the forms, the clerk seemed pretty nice to me as well. We'll see how it goes though. :banghead:

Again, thank you everyone for the warm welcomes.

Welcome to the forums, im also a Linden resident. I applied for my FID this year in march and it only took a month to recieve mine, dont understand why its taking other people so long to get it.

I too am interested in getting a 10/22. My first firearm purchase was a 1911 45acp. Havent shot it to much, ammo is expensive thats why i would like to get a 22. Def need a local place to shoot cause normally i would take a drive down to Shore shot.

Well your response is giving me some hope, man. It's been about three weeks since I dropped off the paperwork and neither of my references have gotten the questionnaires. I wouldn't mind it taking two or three months, but any longer and I'll go crazy. Ah, I envy my uncle who just moved to PA :-/ Were there any special circumstances with your application (like you know a Linden officer, etc.) to have it take only a month???

Not at all. I do not know anyone in the PD. I was not expecting it to go through so quick. My references only got their letters in the mail after the 3rd week and sent it out the same day then a couple days after that i got a call.

Anyone in Union, Elizabeth, Hillside, or Roselle, all in Union County, PLEASE CONTACT ASSEMBLYMAN JOE CRYAN!

Look at what the bills he proposed for NJ's gun laws...

I reccomend anyone in his district to call him up, show him the pressure, and give him an earful.

Also, everyone, contact your own district legislators. To find your district legislator's, go here.

Joseph Cryan's numbers are 908-624-0880, as well as 908-327-9119.

PS - I see that Jason O'Donnell of district 31 and Mila Jasey of district 27 have sponsored those horrendous bills along-side with Jospeh Cryan.

So, we all know how tragic this past weekend has been for Newton, CT. I send my prayers out to all of the families affected by the massacre.

For us here in NJ however, do you think our local PD's will be using this as an opportunity to delay the FID and PP process even further??? Most townships here treat us as criminals and will wipe their butts clean with our FID/PP apps before they approve anything. I wouldn't be surprised if they did.

Here in Linden, one forum user is well past the 200-day mark. I just past the 30-day mark this past Saturday, and I'm afraid to even call and ask on my app's status. My references have yet to receive their letters. I can just imagine the disgruntled attitude I'll be given for wanting a gun during this time.

Only if I had disbanded my BS liberal socialist views when I turned 18, then I'd be swimming in firearms already... Times are tough.

Hello, I am a new gun owner from Jersey City after having to wait forever to get my NJ FID. Though the wait was mostly due to paperwork that the city required that my job and one of my references was holding up on sending back to them. Though the staff at the licencing department were good with communicating questions that I had and keeping me up to date with progress on my application.

I am currently looking to start a career in armed security after having 6 years of unarmed security services and was looking on where I should begin to go about it. I have been looking at some companies but most require those with law enforcement experience.

In reguards to training. I was wondering if I should go along with Taking an armed security course of if was a security company that would provide such training on the job. And if I was to take a Training course I am split between getting from gun for hire or from NJ Firearms academy. Though I was leaning more for the Firearms academy because of its proximity and my reliance of public transit from not owning a car.

I'm glad to join the forum.
