Private sale, what to do with COE?

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

Never sold a gun before. I know buyer needs COE, DL matching FID and I ghave to check that. But what do I do with COE? Do I send it somewhere or just keep it for my records?

Sorry, I tried searching - didn't find an answer to that specific question.

I don't understand why you would leave them laying around the yard (or in a Newark basement) during Sandy, or on your tragically fated boat. which happened to collide with mine a couple of months ago. If, God forbid, a gun you sold ends up in a crime and is traced back to you, you'll be damned glad to have that COE.

I keep mine in my safe and keep a scanned file on my computer.

The ones from my purchases, I don't care about.

That's Assembly bill A9732, right? The problem is Cryan doesn't have a bunghole...he shits out of his mouth.

It doesn't stop there; it's piling up so high that it has blurred his vision and filled his cranium to capacity.

Thread hijack: So long as I have a P2P, private sale of handgun only requires each party complete COE, correct? No need to transfer to FFL unless its someone from out of state?

COE is for long guns only. Private sales of handguns require that the buyer have a P2P. It needs to be completed and the copies distributed as indicated.

Got it-but ultimately the transaction begins and ends with the buyer and seller-no other parties need to be involved? (Except for the P2P). Private sales are absolutely the way to go right now-especially with the low inventories and stupid NICS turnarounds.

So long as you can find someone willing to sell their guns-but most of the guys in the local hunting club buy and sell guns amongst themselves all the time...
