Bacchus88 0 Posted April 26, 2013 So as I am waiting on my FID to come back, I have been looking around for what shotgun i want to buy. I will primarily be using it for trap/skeet and the occaisonal sporting clays. The one that has peeked my interest is the Browning BPS. Has anyone here had experience with this one? Is it good for what i want to use it for? Any comments/opinions or other suggestions $500-$800 range would be greatly appreciated!
Purple Patrick 638 Posted April 26, 2013 Mossberg 930. 18.5in barrel 28in ported barrel $700ish. Done Sent from my hidden under ground bunker between Taco Bell and the dry cleaner
mcbethr 42 Posted April 26, 2013 IMHO, I used to shoot clays with a Mossberg 500 Pump, a 28" barrel and Skeet choke. The money you save can go toward ammunition, which will improve your score far more than the advantage you get from a gas or recoil-operated semi-auto. Buy the Mossberg and save yourself $

You can't go wrong with a Remington 870 or Mossberg 500 as a first shotgun / home defense firearm. Sent from my DROID RAZR using Tapatalk
skruft 1 Posted April 27, 2013 The first shotgun I ever had was an inexpensive Zoli O/U with double triggers and 3" chambers. I was very happy with that. There were no removable chokes then, though.
jon.squared 0 Posted April 29, 2013 I was torn between a Mossberg 500 and Remington 870 for my first pump. Ended up getting the Mossberg 500 SPX because they didn't have a Remington 870 in the shop... either way though you can't go wrong.
jm1827 284 Posted April 29, 2013 I have a 40+ year old 870 that I use for clays and HD, has never let me down.
Jcddefreese 0 Posted April 29, 2013 Mossberg 500 and Remington 870 always seem like good choices. For a spell the Winchester SXP Defender was the hot new thing. I was looking for it last year and the sales person, to my regret, talked me out of it.

The BPS is a quality gun, and could be used for all of the clay disciplines. The 870 and 500 would be as well. If you are picking a gun for the target games, pick the one that fits you best. The Remington & Mossberg are probably better choices because of lower cost and ability to be upgraded and outfitted in different configurations. Browning barrels are pricey and after-market products for them are fewer than for the Remington and Mossberg.
VaultDweller 0 Posted May 13, 2013 I'm also hung up between the 500 and the 870... I'll let you know where I land!
EWC88 24 Posted May 13, 2013 Stuck as well, I'm looking at 590a1, 500, or 870.
alowerlevel 77 Posted May 13, 2013 X2 on the Mossberg 500 or Remington 870. I perfer the Mossberg 500 personally, the safety on top of the 500, instead of underneath with the 870 is also a big plus in my book. But thats just my .

Old Glock guy 1,127 Posted May 14, 2013 I'm also hung up between the 500 and the 870... I'll let you know where I land! You could be hung up there for a long time if you dwell on it, because there is not much to choose between them. I have three Mossbergs, because I find the safety easier to manipulate, as alowerlevel noted. Now I really don't want to get a Remington, as I do not want any potential confusion about the safety in a critical situation.
