Speaking of traffic tickets, I got popped in VA on way to Florida

I get bagged every time i drive through VA on the way to Florida.

 

 

At some point i'll learn my lesson. i think i'm at 5 times now

Any speeding violation above 80mph in VA is AUTOMATICALLY a reckless by speed violation.

 

Reckless by speed in VA is a misdemeanor criminal offense.

 

How do I know? I'm still in the process of getting the exact same situation resolved.

 

DO NOT just plead guilty on the ticket and send it back in... You will have a CRIMINAL record from a misdemeanor conviction.

Not true. I got written up for speeding, not reckless.  It is def not automatic reckless.

 

I have 2 more lawyers to call today, then will chose one.

If it's just for speeding, not reckless, I'd say just ay the fine - as stupid as the fine is.

 

Thanks for talking about this, guys. I always thought highly of VA. Now I'll make sure to be cruising at 70mph if I ever pass through there.

No way, I dont wantr the points. Worth it to pay the lawyer the 125 they want to handle it. Say they can get reduced to defective equipment. Fine around 175 and court fee of 60. Better then points.

Try to "plead by mail".  Cite your distance from the courthouse, your clean record overall good standing as a citizen and ask them to consider this with your guilty plead. 

 

They may change the citation to a parking ticket or something.

For $125 I just hired an attorney who is local to the courthouse (same town).  Let them do it.  I am in mist of a massive move/life change, so, lol.

I've always had a healthy respect for Virginia since I can't run with a detector but now after several trips using the WAZE app it has proved to be very valuable not only predicting traffic but also speed traps and trooper reports.

FYI, the VA cop cars have radar detectors that will pick up on yours if its on. I know first hand. Here's a simple solution to being pulled over, don't speed. Or at least keep it below 10 over.

Your insurance knows either way even if VA doesn't report back to NJ. The traffic ticket may be a small fine but your insurance rates going up will have you paying for years.
