MrWolf 0 Posted April 25, 2014 I was looking at a Marlin 1894 .357 and had noticed that I had seen the same gun in another post from a different state. Turns out to have been the exact same gun as serial numbers matched. I will say the Armslist folks immediately marked the posting as a scam. As they say, buyer beware and be careful. Shame we live in a state that is so anti-gun that we cannot easily find what we want locally. I also posted this warning on other sites that I am a member of. Blake 50 Posted April 25, 2014 I sell things on the site from time to time but would be wary of buying any high priced item from there without thorough vetting.
BlueLineFish 615 Posted April 25, 2014 Yes...have to be very careful on there. Would only do ftf and go with somebody if you are not sure
Fishpaw 17 Posted April 25, 2014 Armslist seems especially bad with scams.
Blacksmythe 71 Posted April 25, 2014 Got a great ton of deals on there for a great price. I prefer to meet at public ranges so I can break down inspect and test fire the item. I am a flash light, magnifying glass kind of buyer.
plode 0 Posted April 25, 2014 Armslist is craigslist for guns. I'll trade you this 5 year old desktop computer for that 1911...no paperwork needed
checko 180 Posted April 25, 2014 Armslist is craigslist for guns. This. Use at your own risk. I'll take gunbroker or arfcom way before that site

bry@n 195 Posted April 25, 2014 I messed with a scammer for a week. Basically back and forth about buying something and then string him along yelling him I sent payment. Lol
checko 180 Posted April 25, 2014 +1 arfcom. Have gotten more deals there than any other place. I was looking for a ppq m1 for a while, then I figured I'd post a wtb on arfcom and within the hour I was hammering out a steal of a sale. Bought countless ar accessories, med equipment, pouches, a plate carrier, a handgun etc..... I like their welcher policy too. Back out and you get a ban, no exceptions. I went looking for an 1894 about a year ago. Several shops and vendors told me they stopped carrying new production Marlins guns because of quality issues. Normally I agree it's NJ's fault, but this one I put on the Freedom Group, who is running Marlin into the ground for an eventual bankruptcy / fire sale liquidation. In my opinion, quality has finally come back on the upswing at Marlin/Remington. I think that is the general consensus over at the Marlin forum. Quality control was terrible when Remington took over. I took a chance on an 1895GBL a few months ago and have been happy with it.
Newtonian 453 Posted April 25, 2014 I've bought a TON of stuff from Armslist: handguns, rifles, ammo. You should initiate an email exchange first. Then talk to the person by phone and ask them for the full contact details. Then look them up to make sure they really live where they say they live. Except for one guy who'd never shipped ammo before, and whom I had to walk through the process, I've never had a problem. Of course if someone asks you out of the blue for $438 by paypal and you just send it, the likelihood for something going wrong goes up.
1LtCAP 4,264 Posted April 25, 2014 i just caught a guy on there from milleville trying to sell a fake ACOG.
Sixtytwo327 14 Posted April 26, 2014 In my opinion, quality has finally come back on the upswing at Marlin/Remington. Hope so - I love the classic Marlins and I'd hate to see that company vanish. Still don't like what TFG did.
ryan_j 0 Posted April 28, 2014 To me the biggest danger about Armslist is encountering an undercover Bloomberg operative who is looking to catch someone making an illegal sale. That said, if it's someone I don't know personally, or can't verify their identity, even if it is NJ I will insist on going through an FFL. The exception would be a handgun sale where you need a permit to purchase and it would be submitted to NJSP. I would have no problem doing that FTF in NJ. deerpark 83 Posted April 28, 2014 Simple rule when completing any online purchase, if its not FTF, pay with an electronic method (paypal credit card etc). If they insist on a money order, tell them no thank you. Exception would be if its going through ebay GB etc where the seller can be verified or theres some protection. No doubt that there are federal and local goon squads trolling these sites. Some of the responses are so incredibly ridiculous, "I have the cash and can do the purchase today, where can we meet?" When you ask which FFL they would like to use, the emails stop.

I got an email from some guy with an email like wearealltrayvon @ (some free email service) asking me to bring a USP to his house, and that we should keep it hush-hush. Yeah right. Shawnmoore81 623 Posted April 28, 2014 I got a lot of emails from people in Maryland trying to buy ar's after they were banned there. Even though I don't support the ban I sure as hell am not getting involved with that. I explained that if I ship it to their local shop then that shop won't sell it to them.
