Lecky 1 Posted January 24, 2015 Hello all, I'm looking for a bedroom safe and am thinking maybe an in wall type. I want it out of sight especially from my kids. And something that I can secure from any possible theft. Does anyone have recommendations for a really good in wall safe? not looking for the ones that look like mirrors or pictures etc, just a good quality one. Thanks

mipafox 438 Posted January 24, 2015 I don't think you can hide safe from your kids long term.
InFamous 311 Posted January 24, 2015 If you're looking into a safe that will keep your handgun accessible in case of a break in, then IDK many wall safes that would apply to that. Look into a quick access safe. I would think most would suggest something along the lines of this, that can be mounted to an appropriate place so it can't be easily be found or taken. http://www.sentrysafe.com/HDC/Quick_Access_Pistol_Safe

diamondd817 828 Posted January 24, 2015 I don't have a wall safe but I do have 2 Barska Biometric safes around my house. I have had them for a couple years now and they always work. Top quality in my opinion. And the price is right. Barska does make a biometric wall safe. http://www.barska.com/Biometric_Safe-Biometric_Wall_Safe.html
Lecky 1 Posted January 24, 2015 My main concern is keeping them away from my children. I have a large dedicated safe to far away from where we sleep. So I Want to get something small for my bedroom, just for 1 handgun, ammo and mags. Another concern would be theft if I was to keep a small safe in my nightstand and someone broke in, they could steal it if we weren't home. Maybe I'm overthinking it, any suggestions? diamondd817 828 Posted January 24, 2015 I have a Barska biometric safe in a closet on a shelf. It comes with 3/8" bolts/wood screws which you use to bolt to the studs in the wall. The bolts can only be accessed from inside the safe. It's not going anywhere easily. I have this one: http://www.barska.com/Biometric_Safe-Biometric_Safe_with_Fingerprint_LocK.html I also have this Barska biometric rifle safe which is bolted to the floor: http://www.barska.com/Biometric_Safe-Quick_Access_Biometric_Rifle_Safe_by_Barska.html
oldguysrule649 397 Posted January 24, 2015 I purchased a Fort Knox Pistol Safe from gunsafesamerica.com. Built like a tank. Highly reliable mechanical lock. You can bolt it to the floor if you wish. I bought the model that the top opens. Hydraulic piston assist. When opened, contains my glock 19, 2 mags and a flashlight. Under that layer of foam, I have the bolts and slides from my other firearms. Ie my Glock is functional. My other firearms are not. So no worries if the grandkids should ever find them. Regards. kman 56 Posted January 24, 2015 You could bolt a small safe in the nighstand and then bolt the nightstand to the wall.
oldguysrule649 397 Posted January 24, 2015 Chris, thanks for the wall safe info and pics. My aforementioned Fort Knox safe is in my upstairs bedroom. We are completely vulnerable downstairs. Will do some measuring to see where I can put a wall safe.
Lecky 1 Posted January 24, 2015 thank you that's what I'm looking for. What makes it?chris, do you think it can be popped with a screwdriver? It looks well made. It would definitely keep everything away from the kiddies.

mipafox 438 Posted January 24, 2015   You could bolt a small safe in the nighstand and then bolt the nightstand to the wall.  I just came up with an idea if you have a torch or just really want to get crazy. Get a sheet of 7 or 8 gauge steel (tough stuff) and bend it in an "L" shape with the foot of the L not quite as long as your nightstand drawer is deep. For instance, a night stand drawer is about 3.5" deep so make it about 2.5" long (so it is out of sight). Drill the appropriate holes in it for mounting the safe to the top of the nightstand and to mount it to the wall. Pull the drawer out and use it to line the inside of the nightstand, beneath the top piece and against the back piece. Bolt the safe to the top of the nightstand and to the metal sheet. Bolt the metal sheet and the nightstand to the studs in the wall. Insert the drawer back into the nightstand and the sheet can no longer be seen. Might have to trim a little off the top of the rear wall of the drawer to clear the sheet and bolt attachments. Even if you smash that nightstand to pieces you are not getting that safe out of the house without bolt cutters. And depending on what kind of bolts you use, there might not be enough exposed to even get bolt cutters on them. It's a little over the top but some people like projects like this and it would be an easy one. Could also use flat bar steel instead of sheet. Or, put the safe on the nightstand and bolt directly to the wall. But I think most are too small to get two studs and if you only get one it will be ripped out pretty easy. ChrismNJ 0 Posted January 24, 2015 I wouldn't trust biometric, special if you working with your hands ( construction for example) you get a cut on your finger and safe won't open. Just my way of thinking

Just my way of thinking. That's why you can, and do, program all 10 of your fingers into it. Biometrics also come with backup access keys. I been opening mine everyday for 2yrs. Never had any issues. Heavier then it looks. Bolted it to my drawer so its not easily removed. They have a biometric version for about $100 more, but it doesnt add much other then the fingerprint reader. No kids at home yet, so im good with this. Thinking about getting another one for the living room.
Howard 538 Posted January 26, 2015 I have this one http://www.barska.com/Biometric_Safe-Large_Biometric_Keypad_Safe_By_Barska.html in my bedroom. Remember that these are probably more accurately locking cabinets rather than true safes. They will keep the curious out, and delay the determined, but they can be drilled, popped or otherwise opened if someone has time. That said, I think they are very good for keeping honest people honest and keeping kids out. They open with a single finger print, but you can store up to 32 prints. So I have several fingers coded with different placement, have never had it not open when I tried. It also has a keypad that can take up to 8 numbers, so you can open it by entering a code as well. Lastly, it has a key as a third means of opening. If you just leave it sitting on the floor someone could pick it up and carry it away, but I don't think that is the concern you have. What I did with mine is that I have it sitting in a corner next to my dresser. I bolted a pair of 8' long 2"x4"s to the back of it and they run behind my dresser. Thus, it would require someone to move the heavy dresser to get at it and then they would either have to have a saw to cut off the two long studs or try carrying it out around hallways with 8' of wood hanging on to it - not likely. 1LtCAP 4,264 Posted January 26, 2015 biometric......some people i think their fingerprints just don't read well. my mother had to have her prints re-done at morphotrak 'cause they didn't come through well. when she went back, they had trouble getting good ones. diamondd817 828 Posted January 26, 2015 Biometric. I'm speaking from experience. I own 2 Barska biometrics that I have been opening and closing for 2 yrs, alternating fingers. They have yet to fail even once.

A-Tech 8 Posted February 10, 2015 If you're into that sort of thing check out NJ Concealment Furniture. They have some excellent quality concealment furniture. Warning: stuff like that comes with a hefty price tag.
