dajonga 397 Posted December 18, 2015 I am thinking of getting a Western 30 "take down" pump gun and having the barrel cut down to 19". Can anyone recommend someone local (Ocean Co.) to do this work?

Old School 611 Posted December 18, 2015 If you're handy, can measure and use a square and a file it's cake. Score it with a tubng cutter. have at it with a hacksaw. Take the square and file and finish it up. Just remember not to cut it too short. When you are done put a cleaning down the barrel against a closed breach and the barrel MUST be 18+ inches. Good luck
dajonga 397 Posted December 19, 2015 I guess for a beater gun like this one, I should do it myself. Good idea on the tube cutter = score mark. Thanks.

You just want to make a mark and make sure you don't crimp the barrel. Like go around the barrel with a magic marker and scratch that. Cut it a little long and square it up with a fine mill file when done. Take a round needle file and SLIGHTLY chamfer the inside of the muzzle. Same on the outside with a flat needle file. Just to take the sharp edge off. Cold blue or use a bluing pen. Now just remember you cut off the choke.
SJ ED 0 Posted December 19, 2015 I've done a couple including a Spanish SXS on my chop saw - just measure twice, level, and cut nice and slow. Chamfer the edges and touch up the bare metal.
Bt Doctur 188 Posted February 19, 2016 If your not in a rush I can do it in my lathe. My Stevens 20Ga comes apart the same way. Given the quality ideas of J Browning ,I would cut up a Mossburg first
NickySantoro 211 Posted February 19, 2016 Like others have noted, cutting it yourself is not hard. If you are still hesitant you could try this guy. I had him cut a Mossberg 28" down to 22" and rethread for chokes. Turned out very well. FWIW. YMMV. http://www.ebay.com/itm/YOUR-12GA-OR-20GA-BARREL-CUT-CROWNED-/261887144849?hash=item3cf9b0b391:g:-YAAAOSw8d9UtIrU
