Default Getting first rifle need help.

Recommended Posts

Ive been shooting with my dad for years but want to get my first rifle on my own for my 21st in a month, I haven't shot in about two years. I wana be able to do some target plate shooting and maybe some deer hunting with this rifle at around 300-600 yards. First gun that came to mind was an ar15 .223. I live in california and arizona so I want the gun to be legal in both states. I know california recently passed some laws about pistol grips and AR's. I wana build a full custom with optics, adjustable stock, quad attachment rail and bipod. What're some things I should look at? Good places to get my gun, what state should I get it in, and the legality of the gun.

Google’d “thomashoard1909”.  If the resulting links are all yours, seems like you really get around. So are you 21or 27? It appears you are also interested in African Game Hunting. I am no big game hunting expert, but I don’t think your aforementioned AR will cut it there.

Very odd 1st post.....

Our friend appears to have created accounts across multitude of websites anywhere from PA gun forums, to knife carry forums, drones .. etc. ... most of them created around Nov 6th. / 7th.  IT also posted couple of gun sales on a website without ever following up.  On some forums, ITs location showed up as Chicago.

Well..... he wont be posting anymore here without a mod approving his post....

Just ban him.  I did an extensive google search and the username came up on many different forums with varying ages, locations and interests.  He also has rifles posted as for sale on at least one other forum.  Also claims to own an M21 that he hunts with.  This guy is worse than a troll, he's a spy on an information gathering quest.  Every account on the forums I checked has a zero or 1 post count.

Usually it’s me that’s the paranoid f*ck with these odd first posts.  I’m going with utter troll based on first post.

    • I use an Alien Gear cloak tuck (IWB) with my Shield.  Neoprene back - in the summer it does feel warm but doesn't rub or chafe.   https://aliengearholsters.com/ruger-lcp-iwb-holster.html Could also go with the shapeshift as it has multiple options - OWB/IWB, Appendix... https://aliengearholsters.com/ruger-lcp-shapeshift-modular-holster-system.html
    • The  12-1 compression ratio L88 is long gone. This is GM's updated version. it might be  pump gas 10-1 engine The L88 was a aluminum head  cast iron block engine with a nasty solid lifter cam. the  ZL1 was a all aluminum  12 or 13-1 compression ratio engine with the best forged internal parts at the time and had a even nastier solid lifter cam
    • I like my regular carry holster.  OWB leather with belt slots.  I've been carrying for over a year and it was comfortable and I hardly even noticed it.  I carry (usually) a Ruger LCP .380 - light, convenient, tiny. But...today I ended up taking it off an leaving it home after a few hours. I cut down a big maple tree a few days ago and I spent 3/4 of today loading and unloading firewood into the back of my truck and a trailer.  It was a warm day, I was dirty, tired, sweaty, and my holster was rubbing against my side.  The leather and exposed metal snap was no longer comfortable. I'm thinking about adding a layer of something to that part of the holster to soften the contact.  Anything insulating will make it worse.  I don't want a sweaty, hotter holster against my skin.  I'm imagining something thin, breathable, that won't absorb sweat, and softer than leather, metal snaps, and rivets.   But I have no idea what would work. I'm hoping somebody else has already figured this out and I can just do what they did. Any suggestions appreciated.
    • Check the primers on the ammo you didn't shoot yet. Are they fully seated? If the primer is not just below flush with the back of the case, the first hit can seat it better then the second hit ignites it.
