Ive recently heard of some FFLs trying to collect the sales tax on a transfered weapon. As they are just doing the transfer and not the actual sale, they should not be doing this.

Some stores I have heard even charge the sales tax on the price of the firearm purchased and transfered through them.

Meltzer's in Garfield is $100 for new guns, that they can get. Or $50 for used guns, custom guns, or anything they can't get directly. No tax.

 

Caso's Gun a Rama in Jersey City is the same deal as Meltzer's. Unsure of the tax though.

Before I started using them, I shopped around, but with traveling and such, they seemed comparable.

 

If you're getting a custom gun, that they can't get, you need to specify this. Otherwise they'll want to hit you with the $100 fee.

The free market is in effect. Take your business elsewhere. It is EASY to find another guy within 20 minutes of their location who has the best prices around.

$20 for transfers plus NICS fee + tax = $37. I've done a couple transfers thru him recently - no issues. He won't touch any AK stuff tho.
