voyager9 3,434 Posted October 30, 2019 If everything was old school people would still be dying from Typhoid. That said, crockpot cornbread should only be made by people with George Forman grills and too many cats.

Prepared the batter explicitly as per the recipe. Total cooking time was supposed to be 90 minutes or when the center sets. Three hours later, with the center finally done, the outer portion was over done. The bread was moist, though, I'll give them that. There must be a particular model Rival Crockpot they used that cooks more evenly.

Actually, there isn’t anything wrong with sugar in cornbread... Many people make a sweet cornbread for dessert, and serve it with butter and honey. I like it that way every now and again. Nah, that's my experience trying anything without a sauce in most crock pots. If you ever get a crock pot without one or more hot spots, it's an aberration and you should hold onto it like the rarity it is. Between that and the condensation, I wouldn't bother with crock pot corn bread.

Have said it before and I stick by it. While I'm more than capable of making my own and sometimes do, it's really not worth the extra work when jiffy is a fine product (although a bit sweet) that's convenient to use. Your crockpot crutch is disturbing to me @Zeke

Your crockpot crutch is disturbing to me @Zeke I sometimes make it from scratch, but I also find Jiffy to be as good...and less hassle. Add some Monterrey Jack cheese (or cheddar, if you please), and some jalapeño, pour the batter in a hot cast Iron skillet, and bake. It’s awesome! Crock pot, my ass.
