VCDL Lobby Day - 01/20/20 Richmond VA

Recommended Posts

Man, the way VA is getting away with their soviet style handling of the event is unbelievably wrong.  Supposedly free Americans fight for 2A, using 1A, after they have been thoroughly searched by state agents and put into a cage.  In no universe is that considered free.  VA has, in fact, adopted soviet style governance.  We used to watch shit like this on TV when I was a kid, but it was always in other countries.  Now it's here and people just accept this bullshit.  Freedom cages and searches are the new normal for freedom.

I can only guess the actual number of constitutional and civil rights that will be violated, but I'm sure it is at least three.

Even if you can’t make it, at least consider donating to the VCDL bus fund to get someone else there:

A VCDL membership is $25 and quite easy to do through paypal.  I can't go on Monday but I did join.  These guys are the front line.

Dictators win again, VA Supreme Court upholds weapons ban:

RICHMOND, Va. -- The Supreme Court of Virginia denied the petition by plaintiffs seeking to overturn Gov. Ralph Northam’s firearms ban at Capitol Square, Virginia Attorney General Mark Herring's office announced Friday evening.

Late Thursday, the plaintiffs filed an appeal with the Supreme Court of Virginia. The plaintiffs are made up of the groups Gun Owners of America, the Virginia Citizens Defense League, and three individuals associated with those two groups.

In denying the appeal, the justices wrote that under the circumstances they were “unable to discern whether the circuit court abused its discretion.”

Worth reading (VSP =Virginia State Police); I think this is an excellent discussion to have with LEO:

Quote

The grounds are currently open - and I went walking the grounds to take photos. I will confess, I heckled 4 VSP guys as I walked past them. I told them they should be ashamed of themselves for being a part of this, and should uphold their oath. One guy got a little mouthy (that's fine, I deserved it) and I asked them if they were open to talking about it. He said no, and we parted ways. These four were in the larger group later as I walked past it an hour later (after checking the Omni and talking to the GM there), and they started saying things like "have a great day sir!" (with not a small amount of sarcasm) Fair enough. I had my opening.

I walked up and spoke to the lead guy and said "do you know why I'm out here? It's not because of this city, the weather or any interest whatsoever to be here. I haven't had a day off in a year, but I'm here because I care about you guys. You guys are going to the ones enforcing these unconstitutional laws, and I can tell you right now - we will not comply, and encounters between people like me and you in the future are going to get very dangerous for both of us. I don't want that. Further, the governor and his people are intentionally setting this up this weekend to cause conflict and get people hurt or killed. I don't want that. If they pass these laws, people are going to get killed. I'm very worried that a peaceful protest this weekend will go badly because of the governors games. I'm here because I don't want to see that happen, and that should mean something to you."

The lead trooper went on about how I was uninformed, and that the bills wont have them knocking on our door and nobody is coming to take your guns (standard talking point), and I immediately responded "ownership of most firearms will become a felony. Do you really want to nitpick about whether you try to arrest me at a range, a traffic stop, when you respond to my house being broken in to, or respond to a traffic accident? I'm telling you now, we will not comply, and will not roll over and be arrested. Do you want every one of your officers to wonder every time they approach a car if today is the day someone defends themselves against tyranny? You guys are going to be the enforcers of these laws, and that's not going to be good for any of us." There were a lot of wide eyes at this point, because these are guys who pull over cars every day. The lead trooper of course asked me about whether I had petitioned my representative, and pointed out an injunction had been filed for the assembly this weekend. This led to an interesting offshoot. He told me I should trust the process. I said "so you mean I should trust a government agency to protect me from a government agency?" He then said something about checks and balances, and I responded that the final check was an armed citizenry, and it was our obligation to resist any unconstitutional law and those that would enforce it. I told him there wasn't a doubt in my mind that what was being proposed was unconstitutional and that it was duty to actively resist it, but I was not okay with going against LE in VA. I told him that's why I'm here - because I don't want to have this be us vs. you. I pointed out that Virginia law excluded the ability for an emergency order to result in citizens being disarmed, and he looked a bit surprised. I told him flat out "you are breaking the law. You are now on the wrong side of the law." He seemed surprised.

I asked him point blank about the assembly on Monday. I pointed out that our permit was for a rally on the Capitol grounds, but now we weren't going to be allowed in there. He said "well you can come unarmed." I immediately said "I will if you will. Let's do it. Take off your duty belt and come stand in the concentration camp behind us." He politely declined. I told him I had met with multiple people with the capitol PD and asked for cooperation about where to stage, how to better work with them, etc., and got nothing. I told him I was very worried that the events the governor had instituted seemed designed to cause an outbreak of violence. I then asked him directly - will an unlawful assembly be declared for people outside of the permitted rally on capitol grounds, and he said he didn't know. I pointed out how dangerous that was, and asked why nobody could give me a straight answer about that? I have been here for almost a week trying to make sure we understood their expectations, and ensure we didn't do anything unlawful - and found it very strange the people who would be enforcing the law couldn't tell me what the law was and what they expected us to do. He then told me "the governor decides if an assembly is unlawful." I responded "you mean the governor who is intentionally try to get us shooting at each other is the guy we're going to trust to make the right call? Do you realize how crazy that is?" I brought up the unlawful assembly thing a few times, and I told him about the new law that removes any liability for LEOs who then enforce that act - up to an including killing people. I asked him how he would feel about that, and told him we were pretty upset about it. Again, it seemed like the governor was trying to get us shooting at each other, but nobody is working with me to stop that. He ultimately said "there will be a staging area for those of you that come armed." He immediately said "I didn't mean staging, that's the wrong word because you won't be going anywhere, but there will be an area for those that come armed." I pushed him hard on this, and couldn't get any details.

Throughout this conversation I tried to make eye contact with most of the troopers. They mostly looked away, but more than a few made eye contact and nodded at key times. The lead trooper stated "you'd be surprised how many of us have opinions that may align with yours, but we can't talk about those - we're here to do our jobs. We swore an oath to support the constitution and intend to do so." Again, while the conversation started off a little hostile because of the troopers I had admittedly heckled earlier, I'd like to think it made an impact. I can tell you that the troopers there were similarly concerned at some of the rulings and the potential for an unlawful assembly order. There were more than a few nods when I stated I felt like the governor was trying to get us to shoot each other. They were not a happy bunch. ...

They will enforce whatever orders they receive..their pensions, their income depend on squashing you, the citizen.

We are and have been a totalitarian state for quite some time.  The moment our law enforcement became militarized, that is the time we had the tipping point.

Today's law enforcement is not the law enforcement of the 50 60 70 or even 80s...

There are those, and i know a few current and retired that would not execute such and order, but i see some, both active and retired - that thinking you the citizen, armed is a very bad thing.  Remember it is brothers before others...

Everyone should remember Nuremberg, following orders is not a defense...but prior to the trials, they did with vigor.

Trust no one but your immediate circle...and know we will all be judged in the coming days, and will be forced to make some very hard choices.

But there is right and wrong, it is black and white, there is no gray.

Update today from VCDL regarding Monday for guys who are going:

IMPORTANT REQUEST: We need 10,000 patriots to fill the Capitol grounds for Monday's rally!

Unfortunately, the Virginia Supreme Court just said they did not have enough information on the stay denied by the lower court to issue their own stay, so the Governor's illegal gun-ban on Capitol grounds is going to stand for this event.

Here is what we need to do on Monday to make the rally a success:

DETAILS:

  1. VCDL needs at least 10,000 members/gun owners to commit to "taking one for the team'" by entering the Capitol grounds unarmed around 10 am and being in place for the rally by 10:45 am. Those who were lobbying will already be unarmed, so we urge them to be part of the 10,000 inside the fencing. NOTE: knives with folding metal blades less than 3-inches long are ARE permitted both in the General Assembly AND on the Capitol grounds.
  2. For every one gun owner on the Capitol grounds, we need another two to five people outside the Capitol grounds's fence on 9th Street. Those doing so can be legally armed.

If you can commit to being one of our needed 10,000 unarmed members inside the fence, please help us by asking several of your family and friends to be your designated armed escort to the gates and to stand outside the fenced area to watch over us.

WHY:

We are separating our responsibilities, in this otherwise untenable and unconstitutional situation foisted on gun owners by Northam. Gun owners standing, both inside and outside of the fence, ensure that the Capitol grounds and the surrounding area is filled to capacity to hear our speakers and it will make a great visual for the cameras!

For those who are going to be on the Capitol grounds, the less items you bring along, the quicker and more efficient the screening.

VCDL will have loudspeakers so that those outside the fence will be able to hear. The event will also be broadcast live on WRVA radio, 1140 AM /96.1 FM.

IMPORTANT:

We ask everyone to follow the temporary Capitol grounds rules. There is NO need
for an act of civil disobedience to achieve standing for a court fight. We already have standing.
We still will have our day in court to fully debate the governor's unconstitutional overreach in just a few short weeks.

Thank you very much for your support and understanding. The Governor and his cronies would like nothing better than to see the Capitol grounds empty, with the speakers talking only to themselves. We simply cannot let that happen.

PLEASE CHOOSE ONE:

  • Arrive temporarily UNARMED and go INSIDE the fenced area on the Capitol grounds or
  • Stand with us, LEGALLY ARMED if you so choose, just OUTSIDE the fence and watch over your brothers and sisters inside the fence

Either way, we'll see you there!

FINAL NOTE:

Monday is going to be a day of lobbying, with a peaceful rally. All law-abiding citizens are invited. The Capitol, State, and Richmond police forces will be providing strong security. We thank them in advance for helping make sue that the event is a safe and fun event.

Here's another perspective on the same thing.

....."Capitol police expect to funnel as many as 10,000 people through magnetometers into the outdoor gun-free kill zone that will be contained by fencing around the Capitol grounds.  Thus, any violent extremists motivated by mass murder will be able legally to carry their weapons onto 9th Street and have a free fire zone into the trapped and defenseless crowd.

Similarly, it will be legal to carry anywhere on the streets surrounding the kill zone.  Trapping people in an enclosure won't make them safe, and the prospect of mixing bad and good actors in the streets is an object lesson in the futility of gun-free zones."

Kinda reminds me of this saying:

Regarding getting "into the cage", Stewart Rhodes of Oathkeepers is on the ground in Richmond right now, and he has a interesting point of view regarding "entering" the cage. He says, it means that anyone who disarms and goes in, gives into the wishes of the dictators. He thinks EVERYONE should stay out of the cage:

....."Predictably, and understandably, tens of thousand of American patriots will not submit themselves to being disarmed and going through an absurd metal detector and police gauntlet to just stand on some grass and listen to speakers.   They are 100% right in their refusal to do so.

Oath Keepers will NOT be entering Northam’s absurd slave pen, and we urge all other patriots to likewise refuse to disarm and go through metal detectors just to attend a “gun rights rally.”  A disarmed gun rights rally in VA is an absurdity and an abomination.   As Patrick Henry would say, “Forbid it almighty God!”  Tens of thousands of American patriots agree, and we will all be outside of Northam’s sheep pen/slave pen in the streets of Richmond, standing in defiance and protest."

Unfortunately, VCDL has chosen to ask that 10,000 gun owners disarm and go inside Northam’s sheep pen/slave pen, with the rest remaining armed out in the streets.   We disagree with this decision.  It sends entirely the wrong message."

https://oathkeepers.org/2020/01/urgent-need-volunteers-jan-20th-to-protect-patriots-at-richmond-gun-rights-rally/

Then, he goes on to reference an article about this rally written by Matt Bracken. This is an IMPORTANT read, you guys going should spend a few minutes and read it:

Richmond: The Mother of All Buffalo Jumps

The more I ponder the mass demonstration being promoted by the Virginia Citizens Defense League for the annual Lobby Day at the Richmond Capitol, the more it looks like a disaster in the making. I wish it were otherwise, but I see many times more downside risk than possible upside benefit.

...snip...

Richmond Lobby Day has Twin Peaks potential on steroids. It won’t matter who pulls the first gun, or why, or who fires first. As in Waco, all hell can break loose in seconds, multiple fatalities can result, as well as hundreds being arrested…and the entire bloody fiasco will be blamed on the “dangerous gun nuts” who came to Richmond to make trouble.

Last night, I was kinda noodling the pros and cons of being in/out cage.  I kinda agree with Rhodes about staying out of the cage in protest, but someone has to be in the cage to deliver the speeches.  If the leaders are in the cage, then they need close up support/protection.

I came up with an idea a while ago, for the first Trenton rally, that we should all buy cheap holsters and walk around with a banana in it.  It's a parody of a Monty Python skit demonstrating the absurdity of being unarmed when someone is trying to kill you.  Can you imagine the blow back, pictures of Americans shot dead with nothing but an assault banana on their hip.

Along that thought pattern, I saw in another forum, someone suggested make a bunch of signs out of cardboard in the shape of a AR15, and carry them into the cage as a symbolic symbol. But, others thought they might be mistaken as the real thing.

Another concern, if a group really wanted to cause problems, what's to stop them from passing firearms over the fence once their crew gets inside the cage?

Virginians, everyone for that matter, need to take the fight to the SC.  People need to protest outside of their homes, their places they eat at, etc etc..  Time for the everyday American to become an activist

I was really impressed with the turnout. Massive is a good description of the crowd. Loads of guns and not a single problem.

I was going to say the same thing!  Makes our attendance at Trenton rallies look pathetic.  Then again, they still have a strong gun culture in VA, while ours has largely been killed off by years of anti-gun incrementalism.

Nj is a pass through state. Va , people want to live and die there. I’m convinced this is our problem.  Nobody wants to retire in joisey unless you’re a taker

So, for the 45+ years people live in Jersey while they're working, they just roll over, and take up the rear, since they're moving away when they retire? Sounds strange.
