kenw 293 Posted July 3, 2010 My son, whom I dearly love in spite of his eccentricities, took a trip to Weaver's today while I was at Shongum. He came home with a brand new to him 91/30, complete with all the bizarre accouterments. It seems to be in good shape, the numbers on the receiver, bolt, and magazine match, the bore is in nice shape, and all in all, it looks like it's at least as nice as some of ones I've seen at the range. He'll be deflowering it at Cherry Ridge on Monday. He's happy, so I guess I am, too.
djg0770 481 Posted July 3, 2010 I get all teary eyed when I hear a youngster has gotten into guns, moreso when he is "economical" too.
usnmars 136 Posted July 3, 2010 Woo hoo!!!!!! Another convert. Make sure he cleans all of the cosmo off of it. If he is shooting surplus, be sure to clean correctly for corrosive ammo. I get home in 2 weeks, maybe I'll drag him to my range for some mosin madness.

maideneddie 35 Posted July 5, 2010 We must all remember that the young man has very good taste That economical rifle will give him years of big boom enjoyment. Now we have to introduce him to the world of AR's 8-)
usnmars 136 Posted July 5, 2010 Those are those glorified .22's you see at toys-r-us right? I figured with all that plastic they would fit in. LOL!!!
kenw 293 Posted July 5, 2010 We brought Jordan's gun out to CR this morning to make sure it goes bang. It does. He needs to adjust the sights, but that will happen some other time. He still has the grin on his face.

Pizza Bob 1,488 Posted July 5, 2010 I think Maks was just the advance guard. The Russians are going to take us over one way or another - it looks like the M-N route may work better than 40 years of cold war. Adios, Pizza Bob I'm too old and too Patriotic - my milsurps are two 1903-A3's and a sporterized 1917 Enfield

lunker 274 Posted July 5, 2010 I'm too old and too Patriotic - my milsurps are two 1903-A3's and a sporterized 1917 Enfield That sounds good to me. I have a 1903 A3 (courtesy of Old School Frank) and a Garand (courtesy of the CMP). I am eyeing an M14/M1A, but they are $$$. Even though my modern Savage is a lot more accurate, the Garand and Springfield are so much fun to shoot. I sold my K31 towards this effort, but it doesn't help that I just bought a Remington 1100 Classic Trap to help me bust clays.
maideneddie 35 Posted July 6, 2010 Glad Jordans new purchase went bang, and he had a good time. Milsurp is way to much fun, now that the door has been cracked watch out...
Maksim 1,504 Posted July 6, 2010 Is that a rubber butt stock on the mosin? Wimps. Uneducated 18 year old peasants from Siberia shot it without it.
djg0770 481 Posted July 6, 2010 Uneducated 18 year old peasants from Siberia shot it without it. They were uneducated, and cold, and had no choice. We are educated, suffering from near heat stroke, and have a choice. Isn't America GRAND!

Ray Ray 3,566 Posted July 7, 2010 Rubber recoil pads ftw! No, suck up the recoil. Buy some dumbells or eat White Castle. Does eating white castle reduce recoil from a Mosin? Now I know your secret to great shooting Tim!
