Newark NJ's answer to crime

Recommended Posts

But there’s a caveat: The next street gang or drug organization linked to a homicide will be dismantled, police say — swiftly and completely. The same goes for the next killing. And the next.

Wow, if they could dismantle the street gang "swiftly and completely", why the hell don't they do it now instead of waiting for someone to be killed? What a bunch of morons.

Yeah - exactly. Why have they been sitting on their hands if this could have been done "swiftly and completely"?

So - basically, we're going to sit down the thugs like a mother sits down her unruly child, the difference is the thugs are not threatened and the mother has not actual way of imposing punishment on the thugs. Yeah - that'll work.

"We're gonna give you another chance. It's okay if you manufacture and deal drugs, commit extortion, rape and robbery, carjack innocent people and commit general mayhem, but if there are any more killings, we're gonna do what we've always been able to do, but never did."

Ridiculous.

Honestly I don't see it as a bad idea.....on paper. One of the things that appeals to gang members is the sense of unity, and when there is NOTHING else that offers hope, it's an easy out for them. Creating hope may be just what some of these guys need. I don't know how it will work, may end up like communism did.....looking good on paper but working horribly. But I do think it's an idea that has some potential.

During the meetings, community leaders will implore the ex-offenders to stop their groups’ violent acts while city officials extend offers of jobs and other assistance. County and federal law enforcement agents will then try to seal the deal: Shape up or face aggressive crackdowns.

McCarthy said the crackdowns would involve dismantling the groups "by any means necessary" — mostly through narcotics enforcement and warrant sweeps.

Oh McCarthy, you're always good for laugh. You got nothin', pal...nothin'. Either that, or you've been intentionally doing a piss-poor job since you were appointed. Which one is it?

Anybody watch that documentary "Inside a Crack House" or something? These guys have it easy, no way they're going to jump at the chance to have a 9-5.

The Feds set up a sting operation, a known crack dealer literally rented a house from the Feds, and beforehand the Feds set up surveillance cameras all throughout the house. They monitored the house for weeks. You know what the dealer and his friends did? Sit around all day smoking weed and playing xbox. People would come by to get some crack, they'd make a quick transaction, and back to the xbox. Easiest job ever.

Studies have shown that volume or saturation of police presence does not correlate to crime rate. Kansas city study is one of them.

not to say less cops is less crime or more cops is more crime however the number of police on the streets does not affect the occurrence of crime.

my 2 cents
