Dick's East Hanover

Recommended Posts

The entire sporting community in NJ (shooters, hunters, fishermen, softball players, everyone) should stop shopping at Dick's. This is getting ludicrous.

Wonder if other Dicks will be doing the same?

Did walmart in NJ ever sell Hunting, ammo, etc?

I don't remember seeing ammo in NJ Walmarts. They may have had some cleaning supplies. Sports Authority sold firearms at one time - not anymore. Remember, this is the anti-gun anything state of the USA. Why don't some of these corps grow some balls!

Just got an email from Dick's, apparently the East Hanover store will no longer be selling hunting products. Not sure what that includes (ammo?).

Hosted email here.

Link includes a coupon for $10 off $50 at Rockaway, Paramus and Woodbridge.

East Hanover is a small store. They told me last month they are getting ready to renovate and all the stock will be moving to Rocakway which is a larger and newer store.

This is what they told me. The East Hanover store wasn't large enough, so they are expanding the fishing section at Hanover, and moving all of the Outdoors/Hunting to Rockaway.

I won't support Dick's. I remember when they said they would only sell hunting guns. That is when I left them behind.

No, I can only imagine that they must be doing away with it for financial reasons. The must not sell enough to keep staff there that can sell them. It is a sign of the times.

But, if i am going to support a gun store. I would rather do it with a full-service one that doesn't have an attitude.

I go back to when K-Mart sold both guns & ammo. You "kids" are something else! Dick's has the best prices on shotgun ammo in NJ. Us old-timers buy several cases at a time!

Why start screaming just cause a store is getting a face-lift? Get over it!

Ha! I remember buying cases of Winchester Wildcats at Service Merchandise for $0.74 a box.

My Dad & I used to buy wildcats for $4.99 a brick of 500 rounds when K-Mart had 'em on sale. Put them mostly through a Browning BL-22 lever action. Open sights could knock a shotgun shell off of a log at 50 yards! Eyes were a bit younger then....

I usually buy between 5 and 10 cases of Target Loads from my local Dicks Sporting Goods store in EB every few months. My wife and I do a LOT of Trap Shooting. The people working in the hunting section have always been nice to us. I think it is dumb that an employee must escort us to the checkout counter, but that's the way it is here in Commie NJ. One of my club members is also an employee there, bet he could tell us if their escorting is a NJ thing or simply a store policy.

I have never been escorted buying ammunition in Princeton, Cherry Hill, or Mt. Laurel. But once I bought some .22 LR value packs at the Burlington Dicks and they put it in some kind of anti-theft box that had to be re-opened at the register. I don't know how they could cram a case of target load in there.

That whole escorting thing must be individual manager or store policy. When you think about it, anybody who is buying ammunition has gone through an extensive criminal background check: hardly your profile of a criminal. Can you say the same for somebody who is buying running shoes or golf clubs?

I buy ammo from dick's in freehold sometimes when there is a decent sale or theres something i need asap and cant order it in time. I have never been escorted to registers with ammo they give it to me in the locked alarm box. They only require it for handgun bullets in fear of people pocketing the rounds, shotgun shells whenever I bought them they just gave me the boxes no record of what I bought or any lock box. Now as far as some stores doing away with ammo and guns, I know the store in brick the hunting section is really tiny I could see that going away, just cause they don't have to room to stock what people may want or need. The lock cart that the freehold store puts just the .22 rounds in is the size of the whole ammo cabinet in brick. The thing is needing to know are they doing away with it because of logistical issues/someone in corporate being a idiot or are they doing away with it because jersey is making it hard for them to do business.

Rockaway doesn't do the alarm box nor do they escort.

EB does the escort thing.

I think East Hanover used to do the alarm box but I don't quite recall.

Kinda seems like the TSA with different rules and procedures for different places on different days depending upon how someone felt when they woke up that morning. ;)

Which is sad that these rules were thought up in the first place, outside the PRNJ they leave it out for anyone to touch hold and pick up and buy, as it should be. :icon_mrgreen:

In the Dicks EB store if I buy handgun ammo (which includes .410 shotgun shells) they need to see your FID card and log it into a book.

No matter what ammo you buy they must escort you to the register.

When I went to Cabellas in PA I really couldn't believe my eyes when I saw ALL their ammo sitting in the wide-open just waiting for someone to pick it up and buy it with no one looking-over your shoulder............... Sometimes "Free America" just seems so foreign to me....... :icon_mrgreen:

Now, if someone was to sell anything between #7 1/2 and #9 for $6.00 a box with no shipping I wouldn't be going to Dicks anymore to buy it. Lemme tell you, 10 cases of that in their plastic shopping carts is tough to take corners, feels like the cart will come-apart!

They do the escort thing due to someone leaving ammo (probably long-gun, that doesn't require additional I.D) laying in with clothing and shoes. Seems that someone decided that they didn't have enough dough to pay for the ammo and the clothes, so they left a box of ammo laying there. Manager was afraid that a kid would "borrow" a few rounds out of the box and take it home or to school. I was told this by both EB and Woodbridge employees.

I was told the Dicks in Stafford Township no longer has firearms, but the person that told me who works there said a permit to sell was not renewed in time. I'll have to check for myself, but they didn't carry a variety of much anyway and seldom had the ammo I needed.

This is 100% true and the reason for the walk up policy.
