the three stooges and me

I am going to crash tonight because I haven't slept in 2 days but I will post pics tomorrow. I got a really purdy M1d that was built on an extremely early 5 digit serial number receiver! I guess I strike again. The armorer at the counter actually said it was one of the earliest serial numbers he has seen on an M1 period at the store and the receiver alone is worth several hundred dollars.

I am definitely not doing that trip again for a while that was brutal. I wanted to come home and play with my rifle and I don't even want to look at it yet LOL

We can really make that trip easier. The vehicle I think is key. If we were driving a suburban or equal it probably would have been more comfortable. The pick-up was a little cramped, which I think made a big difference.

Given the proper ride I don't really mind driving the 8 hrs each way. A cheap motel and a few sleeping bags would have helped too. I drove each way with about a half hours sleep in the middle and I think I could have felt alot better with 4 hrs sleep.

Eric and I historically can run being up for 48 hrs with no sleep so this time it was doable. But it can be made easier.

Trip was worth it though. You guys got what you wanted and I goy two pretty cherry rifles.

That was a cool trip. And though I didn't buy anything, I did learn a lot about the M1 Garand. Unfortunately that's not the only thing I learned.

I learned that there are no diners in Port Clinton (if that's even a real place)

I learned that when you're meeting people from the internet face to face for the first time, it's assumed that you are a murderous cannibal who skins people so you can finally finish that "leather" jacket you're making at home.

I learned that when 4 adult males talk about guns, it's perfectly normal for said adults to break into a song when "Y.M.C.A." or "Girls just wanna have Fun" plays on the stereo.

I learned that when 4 adult males talk about guns, the word "lotion" is uttered with disturbing frequency.

I learned that people still find farting in a closed car funny.

It was a fun trip and it was nice meeting you all. I just wish we could have spent more time getting to know each other before sleeping together (in the car). I mean I don't normally do that sort of thing...

I wasn't talking about a no tell motel. $79 was for a Fairfield Inn with breakfast included. Not the Ritz Carlton but was clean and decent. I'll be looking to go in the summer and staying overnight. PS: Good Mexican restaurant across the street for dinner and a few beers if you like that food.

    • If you’re going to VA, buy 2 radios.  Program one for here and one for there.  If you guys are buying Baofeng radios do yourself a favor and get a tactical antenna for it,it’ll extend your reach.
    • Both our memories are a bit lacking. 3 bystanders were hit by NYPD bullets and 6 were hit by fragments at the Empire State Building shooting. The bullets later were determined to have passed through the bad guy as I said. He was not a big guy. The police fired 16 rds and 7 hit the bad guy.  Spray and pray?  I think not.  These officers fired until the threat was stopped and everyone is moving. Have you ever tried to hit a moving target whilst you're moving.  If you watch the video from where the police encounter him, the BG draws his gun from his bag, NYPD guys shoot, and the BG hit the ground is about 2 or 3 seconds.  The closest officer is maybe 12 feet or less.  The closest cover are those concrete flower pots.  If the officers chose to take cover before drawing the BG would have had a chance to shoot at least one officer. Know your target and beyond?  Agree 100%.  However, this by the Empire State Building at 9 am during the week.  There are bystanders and traffic in every direction.  The officers had a choice of doing what they did or letting the BG shoot them with his 1911 and shoot someone else. I think they made the right choice and the same one I would have made.  The officers exercised the best option in protecting themselves and the public. The first video is the police shooting.  The second is more detailed and gives you a lot of background information on the shooter. One thing this shows is if NYPD had to use fmj undoubtedly more bystanders would have been wounded perhaps killed.  NJ's hollowpoint law. only creates more danger to the public.
