Dan 177 Posted July 18, 2011 Grizzly charges 4 guys in a raft, dispatched with a HG shot. Yet another example of having a gun handy that potentially saved these 3 or 4 guys. http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=52a_1310968570

Jon 264 Posted July 18, 2011 Did he intend to shoot it or just missed and hit the water? My guess is a miss. Incredible video and fantastic reflexes.

Krdshrk 3,878 Posted July 19, 2011 Great reflexes... wow. I don't know if I would have only shot once though... Panic and fear would have me blazing away...
JackDaWack 2,895 Posted July 19, 2011 I've seen this before, or a video exactly like it. Talk about when seconds count.
Old Glock guy 1,127 Posted July 19, 2011 Holy crap, it was scary just watching that! My impression was that his quick thinking allowed him to shoot the water to frighten the bear without harming her; but perhaps the pressure he was under cause him to miss low and left, as I surely would have done. PeteF 1,044 Posted July 19, 2011 At least these guys knew what they were doing. As soon as they saw the cubs they looked around for the mother and said lets get out of here. I'm pretty sure the guy with the gun knew the mother was near as son as he saw the cubs and intentionally shot the water to scare it. If he was actually trying to shoot the bear he would have kept shooting. Other than a few changes of underwear, I think it was a good outcome.
vjf915 456 Posted July 19, 2011 That freakin thing came out of nowhere, no signs whatsoever. Thankfully not only the humans got away unscathed, but the bears did as well.
Jon 264 Posted July 19, 2011 It looked to me like the bear whipped a quick 180 the second the round went off. No need to keep shooting once the threat is gone. Also, it's a bit difficult to keep blazing away with the long d/a trigger pull of a revolver.
GRIZ 3,369 Posted July 19, 2011 Also, it's a bit difficult to keep blazing away with the long d/a trigger pull of a revolver Not if you know how to shoot a revolver.

In a situation like that a revolver with a 1" travel and 50LBS trigger pull won't matter, actually not having it sound like a F/A might be the problem. Pizza Bob 1,488 Posted July 19, 2011 Also, it's a bit difficult to keep blazing away with the long d/a trigger pull of a revolver. I'm with Bob on this one. Although it was difficult to tell from the brief, obscured view in the video, I think it was a S/A revolver.

Harry I think I have to agree with Harry here. I don't think the guy fired the first shot and thought "Man, that was one heavy trigger pull, I hope that was enough to scare the bear away, because pulling the trigger again would be SUCH a hassle."
