Savage .22 Mark II's- Any Experience???

Recommended Posts

I'm strongly considering a .22 for myself for plinking/target fun and am looking at the Savage Mark II's. Anyone have any experience with them, good or bad? Thanks for the help.

I have a Savage MKII BTVS (thumb-hole stock, varmint/heavy barrel).

My opinion: fantastic rifle. Makes it worth spending money for quality ammo - it is capable of very, very tight groups. Trigger is adjustable (at least on my model). 10 Round magazines are $15 or so and available online. Stock has two sling mounts - one for a bi-pod and the second for a sling (nice feature).

Not the cheapest .22 out there, but it has the “quality that will last forever” feel. For a grown-up .22 for plinking, that could also do serious precision/match shooting: yes, highly recommended.

I have one in a Manners T4 trainer stock so it has the same feel as my full size rifles. I bought mine used and am very happy with it. Only thing I did not like was the factory trigger. I installed an aftermarket trigger from Midway (I think its made by Rifle Basix) and now the trigger is very crisp. On a good day with minimal wind I can shoot 1/2" groups at 50 yards with Federal Match regular velocity ammo.

I have a basic Mark II "GXP" (Basic wood stock, combo package w/ scope) which i replaced the scope w/ a Nikon ProStaff 4-12x40mm BDC ... AMAZING RIFLE.

At the $150 I paid for it , normally $200 on sale for $150, it is REDONKULOUSLY accurate and I have not have one single malfunction with it. It shoots any ammo I have put in it, but it appreciates quality and certainly loves the good stuff.

This was a purchase because I loved the look, it looks like a Browning A-Bolt deer hunting rifle but its a Savage .22LR, and it SHOOTS like a Browning A-Bolt deer rifle as well.

Probably my classiest and happiest to luck into purchase.
