AS350Driver 56 Posted January 8, 2013 My PD sends letters to my references every time, so far PP's take around 4 weeks.

MattH 0 Posted January 8, 2013 Mine send letters every time I apply for more permits.
TulsaJohn 1 Posted January 8, 2013 My PD in New Brunswick has to send out a letter to my references everytime I want to apply for more permits. I wish they would just call them it would be so much faster. I will say that I use the same references everytime, just makes things a little easier. notmetoo 41 Posted January 8, 2013 Ewing PD sends letters for the first time you apply. My references haven't heard anything for my subsequant applications.
Duppie 73 Posted January 8, 2013 I use the same 2 references each time and they send a letter each time in East Brunswick and Monroe.
Steve_G 51 Posted January 8, 2013 Ewing PD sends letters for the first time you apply. My references haven't heard anything for my subsequant applications. Same here. I do use the same referenes each time.
jackandjill 683 Posted January 8, 2013 Never understood the logic. My neighbors are my references and they are nice people. They already know I have permit. But I dont like the fact that I have to have them write back everytime I apply for PP.
reduck 0 Posted January 8, 2013 yep, every time in Jackson....same people, same letter...
vmastro87 0 Posted January 8, 2013 seems ridiculous but thanks for the clarification.
Njgunowner 2 Posted January 8, 2013 Huh, my town has never asked for new references. Heck, they'll mail me my permits so I don't have to come pick them up
jackandjill 683 Posted January 8, 2013 Huh, my town has never asked for new references. Heck, they'll mail me my permits so I don't have to come pick them up Buy them something nice for not being an*l like rest of the NJ.
Handyman 5,682 Posted January 8, 2013 What exactly are these references supposed to accomplish? Even Hitler, Stalin and Charlie Manson could have found 2 people to say nice things about them. What an exercise in futility and waste of time.
diamondd817 828 Posted January 8, 2013 It's rediculous. I have been handing in the same references for years. The answers are always the same. So why bother?
plode 0 Posted January 8, 2013 I have two friends, and we all use each other for references. Last time we put in for permits all at the same time, and we asked if we could just answer the questions in person since we were all there. They told us no, and that they would be in contact with us. NJCK 5 Posted January 8, 2013 You want to hear something funny? I have used them same NJ references since coming back to NJ. They're both gun people. My PD checks references every single exemption request, and every 3 permits under OGAM using a standard form. My references have photocopied a giant stack of completed forms and each time they get a request, pull out the form and sign and date it! It cracks me up! Both of them do not have local PDs, and go through the NJSP and I get a yearly call from the investigating trooper when they put in for permits. ruger9 0 Posted January 8, 2013 When I applied for my last P2P, my references were never contacted. When applying for my recent P2P (I don't have it yet), the clerk said that while we do have to list them, they won't be contacted, they only do that for FIDs. She also offered to go get my FID application info from 15 years ago if I needed to copy the references off of it. But my local acting Police Chief has no problem with the public buying guns, says if the SHTF he's gonna' need help. lol Last time it took every bit of 4 weeks (instead of the usual 3), and it was the SP holding up the works. Forddsl96 0 Posted January 8, 2013 They never call my references either... Always send letters... And they are always returned the same day... Fellow firearm people..
mustang69 505 Posted January 9, 2013 Branchburg only contacted my references for the initial FID, not at all for P2P. Heck, they don't even collect the $2 P2P fee from me when I pick them up.
Underdog 1,593 Posted January 9, 2013 Mine used to just send written forms to be returned, but just recently (last month) there appears to be calls being made to references, now, as an addition to the forms. When you apply for permits, etc. does the investigating officer go through your "folder"?
NJScott 15 Posted January 9, 2013 Back in the early 80's, I was told by Bayonne PD that I would need two NEW references each time I put in for P2P's. Don't know when that changed, but glad they even conceded that much...
zoid 24 Posted January 9, 2013 Mine are getting called some times and others not. For my FID they got letters. For my first round of permits they did not call. Second time around they called.
WVisHome 0 Posted January 9, 2013 yep, every time in Jackson....same people, same letter... reduck....how long to get your PP's in Jackson? Took me 6 months to get my FID last summer...well, fall by the time I got it. I won't be holding my breath.
oneshot 45 Posted January 9, 2013 My PD has yet to call or write my references any time i apply. But the chief knows me,that may be why, takes about 4 weeks or more

WVisHome 0 Posted January 10, 2013 Thanks man. Can I have my g/f drop the paperwork off, or do I have to take a 1/2 day off and do it myself?
reduck 0 Posted January 10, 2013 Thanks man. Can I have my g/f drop the paperwork off, or do I have to take a 1/2 day off and do it myself? uh, no. you'll need to do it in person...as they have you sign the forms in front of them once you produce proper id. WVisHome 0 Posted January 10, 2013 True, that's right. Coming from WV, this is all relatively new to me. Thanks man.
Dan 177 Posted January 10, 2013 My PD hasn't sent letters or called my references the past 3 permit cycles. 2 month into waiting and I start calling them asking whats up, then in about a week they are usually in the mail to my house. The reference "investigation" in the form of letters or calls from what I understand is optional for the PD.
