hd2000fxdl 422 Posted February 16, 2013 I'd have to shoot each one first, but if I was picking before doing that, I'd lean towards the Wilson. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
twong11219 0 Posted February 16, 2013 My choice is this. When my head was buried in the magazines, I thought Wilson, like Rolex, was one of the best. Then I realized there were so many choices that were better. http://ctbrian.com/Chopper.html
BullzeyeNJ 104 Posted February 16, 2013 Wilson makes a nice gun. IMHO they are the best semi custom 1911 offering right now. I own or have owned all of them except Guncrafter. That one is on my short list. Just the other day I was about to order another Wilson and I asked my stocking dealer about Guncrafter. He recommended I get one over another Wilson. Not because they are better but they are another quality 1911 that I don't have. I like the look of Wilson and I like the endless amount of options that you can custom order to your pistol. It turns out that your semi custom Wilson can get pretty custom to your liking.
twong11219 0 Posted February 16, 2013 Sorry, not trying to bash Wilson. Rolex is still nice in my opinion. I was looking for a Super Grade back in the days when I was shopping for my second 1911.
Bully 749 Posted February 16, 2013 I've shot a Brown. Loved it. I've shot a Baer... meh. Not shot a Wilson or a Guncrafters. If I was to pick, I'd go Guncrafters. In .50gi. Maybe .45acp, but most likely not. I just like the non billboard look. If I was to go full custom, not too sure. John Harrison, Jeremy Reid... long list for me. I wouldn't count out Alchemy Custom either. Good luck in your quest. If that's your budget, you can certainly afford the best so you should be just fine. At that level, there's not really a "wrong" choice. C
bullpin 0 Posted February 16, 2013 Wilson wins it by just a smidge over ed brown. When you step it up to a super grade there is no comparison. I dont have any guncrafter.
Shane45 807 Posted February 16, 2013 If I was dropping coin in that catagory it would be a Ned Christiansen, C.T. Brian,or perhaps a Chuck Rogers ground up build.
BullzeyeNJ 104 Posted February 16, 2013 So a Wilson Supergrade will run you about 5k to 6k and will take about a year to 2 years to get. A lot of time and a lot of money involved. For that cash investment you could go with a one man shop where you would have more of a say on how you want it built plus you get to talk to the man building it for progress reports. Think finely tailored suit made from your choice of fabrics vs nice off the rack suit with taylored alterations. Food for thought.

BullzeyeNJ 104 Posted February 16, 2013 I haven't been shopping a while for a 1911, but do WCs cost that much now? I thought 3g's where bad back in the days. Yes. The Supergrade is at least 5k without anything exotic. Crazy, I know. Its their top of the line model. Most Wilsons will cost around 3k for a CQB. It seems like Nighthawk and Wilson Combat started a different marketing strategy the last couple years. They jumped up their prices to appeal to a certain crowd. If someone wants something more than a higher end Kimber or Springfield that is off the shelf but doesnt want to lay down 5K and lots of wait time for a full custom build from a Yost, or CT Brian then there is Wilson or Nighthawk. I bought my first Nghthawk years ago when they started and it was $1400. Its was their Talon model which was really nice. Two years later the same gun was being retailed for $3000. My friend tried to sell me his used Wilson CQB 4 years ago. New he paid $1900 and he wanted $1600. I passed on that deal. The following year Wilson raises their prices on the CQB to $2800. So these companies are charging more because people are willing to pay it.
Pizza Bob 1,488 Posted February 16, 2013 Why, in a publicity shot, would you not outfit the gun with the proper grips? It just looks dumb to have grips with a beveled base and a magwell funnel. The grips should be flat-bottomed and mimic the contour of the funnel so that there is one smooth continuous line. Just me being nit-picky, but come on - this is a $5K+ gun, get it right. Ray Ray 3,566 Posted February 16, 2013 5 grand? I'd get this http://www.sigsauer.com/CatalogProductDetails/1911-scorpion.aspx and add an ambi safety from Wilson Combat. Then I'd get this: http://www.smith-wesson.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product4_750001_750051_785116_-1_757752_757751_757751_ProductDisplayErrorView_Y Then get this: http://www.springfield-armory.com/armory.php?version=28 And the 1000 or so bucks left over I'll get Wilson Combat/Chip McCormick mags and ammo.
