The Ruger 10/22 seems to be on almost every list. Is there a particular sub-model?

Would they be referred to as a "plinking" gun?

Are they jersey compliant out of the box?

I'm assuming they shoot 22lr?

Stainless is nice but the classic is the carbine

Good plinker but very accurate and can be tuned to be more so by tons of aftermarket parts

Yes

i don't think these must have lists necisarily call for specific firearms... more of a general to taste sort of thing.. anyway, in my opinion.

an AR of personal choice and caliber

an AK of personal choice and caliber

a bolt action of personal choice and caliber

choice of cheap surplus rifles

a 12ga of personal choice and caliber

a 1911 in .45 - personall choice still applies

a glock in caliber of your choice (for me i want 10mm)

at least one revolver in caliber of choice

9mm handgun of personal choice

.22 rifle and handgun of personal choice

i don't think i missed anything - notice i said 9mm handgun rather than "92fs" (even though i own one) or "glock 19". the gun is really up to the owner, but when talking about general "must haves" i don't think anyone can argue a 9mm handgun.

Are you starting a collection to use on a regular basis at the range or looking for guns that are considered collectible and will see limited range use. Collectible meaning that they are no longer made and their value will only go up in value as time goes on. They are more of an investment so you want to preserve their condition.

If you want a collectible 1911 then start looking for something made by Armand Swenson. He is dead now and is considered by many to be the Godfather of the modern 1911. Great article attached...

I've gone for diversity in my collection -- in terms of action type, size (ranging from full size, to compact, to pocket carry), use (home defense, plinking and carry) and caliber.  Not a Glock among them:

Revolvers:

S&W Model 60 Pro (.357)

Ruger LCR (.38 spl)

Single Action (.45 ACP):

S&W 1911 Compact ES

Sig Sauer 1911 Tac Ops

Striker Fired:

Kahr PM9 (9mm, suitable for pocket carry)

Walther PPQ (9mm)

DA/SA

Sig Sauer P226 (9mm)

H&K P2000 v3 (.40sw)

CZ P01 (9mm - great gun!)

.22lr:

Browning Buckmark Camper

Rifles:

AR:  S&W M&P -15 Sport (.223)

         S&W M&P-22 (pro model)

Mini-14 Tactical (.223)

Mosin Nagant

Henry lever action .22 (octagonal barrel)

CZ 452 (.22, bolt action)

Kel-Tec Sub-2000

Shotgun:

Remington 870 (with a 28" barrel for trap and an 18" barrel for HD)

I feel like I'm "missing" a full size .357 and a nice over-under, but think I'm pretty much done buying guns.

.357 mag revolver

9mm or .45 semi-auto (if .45 should be 1911 pattern)

.22 rifle.  Semi/bolt/lever isn't important

12ga pump shotgun

M1 Garand - This is 'merica

Defense/Fighting rifle.  Whatever semi-auto centerfire rifle you're most comfortable and confident with.  AR, AK, ranch rifle, pistol caliber carbine, etc.

Hobby gun.  This is the hunting rifle, slug gun, national match rifle, precision bolt gun, nice over-under for skeet, whatever tickles your fancy.

I think that's a good foundation for any collection.  Anything added from this point is gravy.
