Hack attack map

Recommended Posts

if that thing's accurate, there's an awful lot of attacks originating right here in our own country.......

Yeah, but it's 3-1 from China.    This is one reason I block .cn TLDs using opendns because chances are anything that resolves back to a Chinese server is likely to be malware.

so what's taking so many hits in the middle of the country?

Norse has Honeypots set up and what you are seeing is traffic to the honeypot network.  The honeypots mimic tasty targets like government or big business secure sites so what you get is a general look at what those networks are experiencing.

creepy. why is it that China isnt showing any attacks, are we unable to track that data?

If I had to guess, the great firewall of China may prevent accurate reporting since it's easier to see incoming to the honeypot network than outgoing attacks through data centers.  The reason is...if you see outgoing attacks originating from your network, you squash the attack and go after the attacker.

Most outages happen because someone screwed up something.  When firms are hacked by actors that are skilled or have really good tools, the firms usually don't know about it.  Some hacks do cause systems to fail or make data inaccessible and result in denial of service.

More than "hacks" or even DoS, it's usually some change they made that went south.

Chiie is attacking St Louis in a big way today!! 600 something attacks in a matter of seconds.

Supposedly their is a great deal of masking involved and the attacker / target is not correct but instead mirrored around the world.

From what i been told Norse is a reputable company and while its not everything its a glimpse of whats going on!
