School me on Pickup Trucks

Recommended Posts

All things are relative......My 2000 Nissan Xterra had 191K miles on it when I sold it. Ran like a top. After many miles of off-roading too. All comes down to maintenance of the vehicle. I ran all synthetic fluids since the first oil change. Only got rid of it because the body started to rust, which is a notorious Nissan/Toyota problem.

I love my Chevy Silverado. Most companies aren't making mid-sized pickups these days. The Toyotas are nice. My buddy's had one for years and loves it. It's a nice truck with nice ammenities. I've both had and heard so many horror stories from friends about Ford pickups that I'll never buy another Ford anytime soon. I've had nothing but good luck with GMC and Chevys. See what you like and then research it as much as you can. Edmunds.com used to be a good place but don't know about these days. If you take care of whatever you get, and if it's not a bad engineered truck, then they all should last about the same anyway.

That Nissan with the Cummins Diesel looks pretty nice. I'm a Dodge guy, 2012 Ram 2500, so it was hard to say that. I threw up in my mouth a little, but it is a nice looking truck with a bullet proof diesel engine.

I've been eyeing it up like a centerfold

I drive a 4x2 05 ford Ranger expanded cab V6/5 speed with a topper on the back.

It gets about 16+ in town and 19/20 on the hi-way.

Was going to trade for a 13 but found out they quit making them in 11.  Don't like the full size trucks and the mileage sucks on most anyway.

Want to get a new truck, but have about decided to look at a small/mid sized SUV since they don't make the Ranger anymore.

I wouldn't drive a jap if it was a gift!!!   Even if it got 40mpg!

Nope, news to me.  I would guess if that is the case then Ford must make the mazda???  For sure the Ranger is made in the USA!

Ford and Mazda worked together on a lot of designs....

Just like the original Ford Fusions and Mercury Monterey? or whatever it was called, along with the Lincoln MKZ were all rebadged, reskinned Mazda 6.

The Ford Duratech 3.0 was in all the platforms.

It really is very grey now.... especially when BMW and Mercedes cars, Toyota Trucks are more American than GM and Ford products.  Even the new Mercedes C class is made in the united states.

and nearly EVERY imported car isn't really imported anymore, but built right here.

Back in 12 when I was looking for a new truck it was down to a Colorado and a newish Ranger but couldn't find one. turns out I got a Tacoma only because great reviews, Colorado got horrible reviews and a Tacoma was much more American than the Colorado. The Taco was made here and altho both trucks had out of country sourced parts the Colorado had much more imported parts. The Taco was more American in the end.

From my experience, and please this is only my opinion so please do not get offended for any brand loyalists out their. I have had many many cars, that span across multiple different brands and styles (pickups, SUVs, sedans, coupes). From the data on breakdowns and reliability, Toyota trumps all. Then comes Honda, and a surprising Hyundai as third due to their increasing standards. When it comes to reliability of American brands it goes: Ford, Chevy, then the Chrysler group of cars (dodge, jeep, Chrysler). So I would go with the Toyota Tacoma personally, or a Ford F-150. It all depends on your price range and preference. You will have a hard time finding a good deal on a Taco, their reliability is legendary and they hold resale value like no other. Good luck!

you gain more "friends" when you have a truck.

BTW my friend, what are you doing next Saturday? I need to get some furniture home, I'll throw you a few bucks for gas.

Thanks bud.
