If all the guns were not lost off the boat during a hurricane, does anybody have recommendations for gun insurance at home? The maximum rider for New Jersey Manufacturers is $5,000 which we all know is about 1/2 of a shotgun. Much prefer to have the whole gun insured.

Thanks all,

NRA one is about the best.

Of course if you insure everything, I not talking just guns, considering the relative risk of a claim versus the total cost of premiums paid over a lifetime, the difference would be staggering.

If you both are members, you both activate your free coverage.  Prices and benefits are quite good.

Yes we are and I did. I just checked out your link and looked at different coverage amounts. 10k was only $98 or so a year, you get just under 20k for $20 a month. It's not too bad at all.

Eastern Insurance. About $125 for $35,000 of Unscheduled collectibles coverage per annum.

What is per annum? I am looking to get my collection insured fully both guns and military items and they sound like a good place to try.

It cost me $80/mo to insure my collection. I paid it for a few years then decided to drop it, as I have a really good fireproof safe and an alarm system.

Question on the NRA insurance... I activated mine but there were no questions at all around listing the guns that you are actually putting on the policy. Did I miss something, or is it in fact that all you do is simply activate it and there are no details required about types of guns, number of guns, etc needed?

The insurance company writing it only requires reporting of items over a certain dollar value.  IIRC that value is $2500. Which is over the value of the default NRA policy, so they don't care if you tell them anything until you buy additional insurance.

Having gone down that road, the company they insure through is a bit on the overpriced side for additional insurance.

So if my entire safe got broken into and stollen, I can claim up to $2,500 in losses with the basic plan without them ever having record or knowledge of what weapons were kept in there?

Yes and no.

Yes that is the coverage: $2500 without having to fill out anything.

However, if something happened, and for whatever reason they didn't 100% believe your claim was legit, they may ask you to prove you actually owned the firearm(s) you are asking them to pay off on. So the moral of the story is, keep some sort of record or receipt in a separate location.

I keep a folder with the COE's of every gun I own. It would come in handy both for the police report, and the insurance claim.

Anything that proves ownership would count. COE, sales receipt, permit paperwork, relative's Will giving you ownership. You just need to establish that you had this firearm in the first place.

    • We never let then inside.  Last re-evaluation was 6-7 years ago, wife politely told him that he was welcome to look around the property and he could look in the windows. He saw two white resin chairs in the basement and told her that this constituted a finished basement. And everything in the basement is bare concrete/ cinder block, and mechanical systems. Nothing finished about it. Ultimately he relented and I'm sure that was a ploy to coerce us to allow him in

    • The  12-1 compression ratio L88 is long gone. This is GM's updated version. it might be  pump gas 10-1 engine The L88 was a aluminum head  cast iron block engine with a nasty solid lifter cam. the  ZL1 was a all aluminum  12 or 13-1 compression ratio engine with the best forged internal parts at the time and had a even nastier solid lifter cam
    • I like my regular carry holster.  OWB leather with belt slots.  I've been carrying for over a year and it was comfortable and I hardly even noticed it.  I carry (usually) a Ruger LCP .380 - light, convenient, tiny. But...today I ended up taking it off an leaving it home after a few hours. I cut down a big maple tree a few days ago and I spent 3/4 of today loading and unloading firewood into the back of my truck and a trailer.  It was a warm day, I was dirty, tired, sweaty, and my holster was rubbing against my side.  The leather and exposed metal snap was no longer comfortable. I'm thinking about adding a layer of something to that part of the holster to soften the contact.  Anything insulating will make it worse.  I don't want a sweaty, hotter holster against my skin.  I'm imagining something thin, breathable, that won't absorb sweat, and softer than leather, metal snaps, and rivets.   But I have no idea what would work. I'm hoping somebody else has already figured this out and I can just do what they did. Any suggestions appreciated.
    • Check the primers on the ammo you didn't shoot yet. Are they fully seated? If the primer is not just below flush with the back of the case, the first hit can seat it better then the second hit ignites it.
