I've been working my way through the recipes of the past ICS chili contest winners:  http://www.chilicookoff.com/Recipe/Recipe_WCCC_Recipes.asp?Cat=1

What a great website--didn't know it existed.   It's bookmarked now.

I'm partial to my own chili recipe, but will happily dive into World Championship Chili Cookoff recipes.  They just might be better...

Next up is "Pools Brew Chili" this weekend

This is a treasure trove of recipes, but they use a lot of very specific varieties of chili powders. Sometimes half a dozen varieties in a single recipe.

Anyone know a good source in north jersey? I'm not going to find them in my local Acme

We have good luck at Whole Foods for interesting stuff. Or Amazon.

I got a recipe from a buddy of mine for a crock pot cheesesteak. My wife made it last night and it was great.

1lb of velveta

2 cans cream of mushroom soup in a crockpot.

Brown 1-1/2 to 2lb ground beef in a pan and drain the grease.

When the velveta and soup are melted then mix in the ground beef.

Stir the cheese as it is melting so it isnt all stuck to bottom

Is it stiff enough for a roll, or do you serve it in a bowl?

and what's the point of using a crock pot if you have to brown the beef first?....  I'd think you could just cook everything in the pan you browned the beef in....after draining the grease the canned soup would deglaze the pan adding to the flavor....that being said....i'd try anything once.  And onion soup does sound better than the mushroom, but might make it watery unless it was condensed.    just my currently unprofessional culinary opinion.

Did 1 lb beef

1 lb velveeta

1 can mushroom de creme

1 can French de onion

Needs bacon. Mrs Z agree. But she hates, I mean hates velveeta.

She's thinking American cheese.

No crock. Got some new fancy copper tv pot( it's actually pretty muscle)

Tomorrow I'm smoking baby backs and braising short ribs. I may make tacos with braised chuck and my specially costed deep fried chicken to wrap it in--no carbs from the wrap that way. ;)

For this upcoming weekend's Super Bowl, I am making chili for us, which has been a tradition for us for the past 10+ years, all washed down with some nice regional craft beer.

We like to explore different chili recipes, trying a different one each year.  So for this year's version I am going to take as a starting point the recipe from John Jepson,  I have purchased and received the mild and hot New Mexico Chili Powders online and the rest of the ingredients will be obtained in local stores.

John Jepson was the winner of the 2011 International Chili Society's (ICS), Annual World's Championship Chili Cookoff Contest.  I am debating on whether or not to add beans to it, (TBD).  If you are interested, here is a link to his recipe:

What are you all making for your Super Bowl dinner?
