"Investigators were looking into the customer but his gun permit appeared to check out authorities said."

Almost feels like the reporter was disappointed that the customer was legally carrying....funny that there was no mention in the article of either bad guys' statuses within the confines of PA firearms law.

Right! Did bad guys have ccw or legal ownership of weapons? Prolly not

Uber driver shoots would be robber:

Uber has a "No guns" policy making them a tempting and popular target for robbers and carjackers.

Check local news for incidents of successful self-defense with a firearm.  The major media outlets only cover tragedies, because that's what sells, and their content is primarily determined by ratings and ad revenue.  They couldn't care less about a guy who lawfully reduced an attacker.

WARNING:  GRAPHIC...

Incredible moment a 62-year-old driver shoots gunman who is trying to rob him of £10,000 - and judge FREES him because he was acting in self defence

This is the moment an armed robber is left writhing in agony on the pavement after being gunned down by a building foreman he tries to intimidate into handing over cash.

The criminal, named locally as 40-year-old Ricardo Palazzo, pulled out his weapon after spotting Pedro Gonzalez sitting in an expensive-looking 4x4 opposite a building site.

CCTV cameras showed him demanding his intended victim open his car door and even banging on the glass with his pistol when he didn't get him to buckle immediately.

The robbery attempt was captured on CCTV, as Ricardo Palazzo tried to rob Pedro Gonzalez

CCTV cameras showed him demanding his intended victim open his car door and even banging on the glass with his pistol when he didn't get him to buckle immediately

Instead of cash he ended up getting lead in his groin and a shoulder as his target fought back with a weapon he had hidden in his vehicle and blasted him three times to the ground.

The incident happened in Caballito, a neighbourhood of the Argentinian capital Buenos Aires.

At first it appeared the armed robber had been shot dead.

But he began to move as the construction worker dialled 999 and onlookers rushed over to see what had happened.

Last night - as 62-year-old Mr Gonzalez was freed after several hours in custody by a judge who ruled he acted in self-defence - it emerged he had more than £10,000 in workers' wages on him when he was targeted.

The revelation led to speculation the robbery was not the opportunistic crime the CCTV cameras appeared to suggest.

As well as a 9mm Bersa Thunder pistol, the same weapon the building foreman used, police confiscated a grenade from a rucksack the armed robber was carrying.

The 50 men due to receive their wages from the intended victim have now been paid.

Mr. Gonzalez's lawyer Mariano Fragueiro Frias said: 'The investigating judge took more than ten statements from witnesses who were at the scene when this incident took place, before and after the shots.

The judge said of Gonzalez: 'He acted in self-defence. He was attacked by a man with a gun who was pointing his weapon at him'

'It was clear that my client was the one who called the police and the paramedics.

'He acted in self-defence. He was attacked by a man with a gun who was pointing his weapon at him.

'He replied with his own firearm. He has a firearms licence.'

One social media user wrote: 'It's so gratifying to see this video.'

Another added: 'This 62-year-old man deserves the nickname Badass.'

The 2012 Hollywood film Bad Ass, starring Danny Trejo and Charles S. Dutton, focuses on a Vietnam veteran who becomes a local hero after saving a man from attackers on a city bus.

I notice nobody moved the pistol out of the perp's reach. And the victim seems pretty disorganized; his attention is all over the place and the perp is not dead. So, the threat remains?

Nevertheless, congratulations! Not sure I could have done better.

On the other hand, here's a good example of what not to do.

You really need to understand ability, opportunity and jeopardy before you decide to use a firearm to 'defend' yourself.

Yup.... you can't shoot a fleeing felon in Florida, either.  Not unless they're attempting to flee with a kidnapping victim or similar scenario.

You are allowed to use deadly force in the event of a "Forcible felony" (and there's a list of 13 of those, kidnapping being one of them). But there must still  be an eminent fear of death or serious bodily harm, or else you're going to have a lot of explaining to do to the prosecutor.

Done here in Florida we read about defensive use of firearms all the time because our newspapers and politicians are mostly pro gun. In fact, they go out of their way to mention it. Just tonight we read about a home invasion that killed a father and son in the next town. I cannot recall reading stuff like this in NYC or NJ..

The interesting thing is that you often read many posts about caliber and guns to use when most times I read about a .22, .38 spl or .380 stopping the bad guys. Not 45's or Glocks but Tauruses, S&W 642 and Ruger LCP's. Then again I live among 150,000+ retired people so recoil and big guns are a problem.

Despite the reporting, most who do not own do not read those articles or remember them. I do not forget and will tell them about why their neighbors needed guns to save their lives. Many people are naive and/or live in a dream world where everyone has the same morals as they do. I do not think North States will print articles that portray guns in a positive light since the media's goal is to demonize guns, not promote them.

Former resident of NJ for 30 years who moved to Florida to be among a majority of citizens who are pro gun.

If it is against the mall's policy, then how were the perps able to carry?

It will be of little avail to the people, that the laws are made by men of their own choice, if the laws be so voluminous that they cannot be read, or so incoherent that they cannot be understood; if they be repealed or revised before they are promulgated, or undergo such incessant changes that no man, who knows what the law is to-day, can guess what it will be to-morrow. Law is defined to be a rule of action; but how can that be a rule, which is little known, and less fixed?

Now Now...that wouldn't fit the mainstream media's agenda.

Besides...Those poor innocent robbers were just trying to get money for school clothes.

When will the general public wake up and realize that gun free zones only make it safe for criminals.  Shame on the mall's GM for not thanking the CCW holder and shame on USA Today for skewing the headline to serve their purpose.

Or as I like to call it a positive result.
