Broadband speeds today. 02/21/2010

I have Verizon Fios. It has been hit or miss for the last couple of weeks for me.

 

My connection is nearly as it should be at 20 mb down and 5 mb up for locations on the East Coast.

But, anywhere west and the speeds drop to 4-14 mb down and 300k to 1400k up.

 

Anyone else experiencing this?

FiOS sucks. Worst decision I ever made. Contract is almost up. I always ask why they need a commitment for a year? Now I know why. Optimum never made me commit to a contract for a year. Never will I switch again.

I wish I could get optimum. It is comcast hell here only. So Fios is much better. And by far best TV HD quality.

Looks like it is the Verizon network.

 

Maks, you have the same type results I got with similar speed tests.

 

I have emailed Verizon but don't expect anything to come of it. :cry:

 

When I was on DSL and had issues with speeds and connection by the time I got to talk to someone at verizon, the connection would miraculously get better. It always stayed bad until I gave in and called to complain.

I was getting 25/20 until i ran windows 7,verizon fios is NOT configured with windows 7.From Verizon web page a fix is out end of Jan 2010.

Checked again with Speedtest.net and results are about the same. I expect to get 18-20 Mb/s anywhere in the lower 48 states. I used to get that. They want me to upgrade my service and pay more for faster speeds. I told them I would be happy if they delivered what I pay for.

The big difference with fios and cable is fios allows a LOT of upload speed where as cable limits that but allows a lot of download (and that's the inherent flaw in cable internet)

It's what your paying for. You have the opt online "ultra" which is up to 100MB/s where as he must have the basic internet package
