Denville council passes outdoor anti-smoking bill

Recommended Posts

About 2 years ago they made it so people at the beach here in Belmar could only smoke in these little roped off sections. Pretty funny looking at the morons all standing around in the pen looking like cattle.

Yes very funny. Almost as funny as the loss of a legal personal freedom taken by a Govt official. Next think you know they will pass something really stupid like a one gun a month bill . LOL!!

"THEY CAME FIRST for the Communists,

and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Communist.

THEN THEY CAME for the trade unionists,

and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a trade unionist.

THEN THEY CAME for the Jews,

and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Jew.

THEN THEY CAME for me

and by that time no one was left to speak up."

yeah yeah, cry me a river cuz you cant smoke.

I think its funny because these idiots would smoke and then leave the butts everywhere. If they didn't do that you would be able to smoke freely on the beach. Blame the dirtbags who couldnt clean up after themselves.

Well I haven't smoked for many years, but I just hate seeing more regulations on what a person can and can't do. This is the nanny state and they will try to regulate everything you do until everyone assimilates to their ideas. Then this state will be Utopia.

I agree, but when you feel the need to litter everywhere with the cig butts then something has to be done. Maybe if people starting giving a shit about others just a little bit we wouldnt have to make up stupid laws like this.

Besides, nobody forces people to come to Belmar beach, they choose to. Dont like it, go to another beach. Just like people who complain about the content of radio or tv.. dont like it, change the channel

I am sure this law has a little more to do than just littering. I work in this town, and these people think that they are better than everyone else. It is literally a town full of 10 cent millionaires. The hierarchy in Denville like to give the perception that they are better than everyone else, and this is nothing different than what us peons are used to from them. All of you that believe that the recently passed law is a good idea will cherish all the ideals that the "beautiful" people of Denville support. The irony is that this is one more blow to the freedoms that we as United States citizens cherish.

I agree with the littering aspect, I ride a motorcycle. Nothing like getting lit butts hurling at you at 70, never mind sodas, cheeseburgers, etc. But aren't there already laws on the books for littering? I don't like the smell of cigs either anymore but I hate to infringe on other peoples desires. I definitely agree with the change the station if you don't want to watch / listen to what"s on.

how does cig butts on the ground disrupt your day?

I keep people employed by littering, grow up and stop your bitching.

If that is really your big concern, litter, then you tell all these f****** who leave parking lots around the country filled with trash the same, don't attack me on the basis of littering. If you can step over a wrapper without complaining (obviously) then you can step over my butt. Just cause you don't smoke, or have some past issue with smokers who had the freedom to smoke wherever they wanted, be glad we took the shit outside, you want anything more, well you can only push us so far before we tell you to go screw yourself.

Littering shows a general disregard for the environment and those around you. It's (IMO) another of the entitlement mentalities.

However, this is not about littering. This is another step in the Nanny State BS formula of taking as much control as possible whenever possible and finding ways to prevent some people from doing something they like to do.

I am not a fan of second hand smoke, but I can tell you that this is almost a non-issue in the US. If you go to Europe however, bars and cafes and restaurants still permit smoking (yes, in the great Socialist Europe). THERE, you can hardly go to dinner as a non-smoker without coming home stinking to high heaven from tobacco smoke.

IMO, town councils should be worried about real local issues instead of trying to get their names in the newspaper for passing idiotic laws.

Many years ago my friends development banned smoking on the their private beach because a kid stepped on a still lit one with her bare feet.

There is something about cig smokers though that just says you MUST chuck your lit butt on the ground. My next door neighbor always comes around the corner to her driveway and chucks the butt out on the curb in front of my house.

Sure, its on the curb, but she will toss 3 or four a day in the same spot.

WFT? put it out in the ashtray and then empty that in the trash. How hard is that?

BTW, I am not against smoking. I prefer cigars myself.

I'm a cigar aficionado as well... I don't throw my butts away. I snip 'em into an ash tray then dispose of 'em properly.

Ya. And failing that I will smear them on pavement until they cruble to little bits. Its just leaves after all, the epitome of biodegradable.

Cigarette filters are far less so.

Lets say I'm driving around eating a salad. It was a really big salad so I only ate half of it. You don't see me throwing the other half along with the paper plate it was on out the window as I drive down the street... biodegradable or not.

Ya know smoke smell coming from the car ahead of you is not really a big deal. Seeing people throw their butts around annoys the shit out of me which in turn makes me hypersensitive to a little smoke smell. There are tons of places in NJ where you stop at a red light and the curb is literally FILLED with empty butts. Drive down any road with a center concrete divider. RT35 comes to mind for me... lots of stop lights, etc.

Its not just smokers... all people that litter drive me f-in crazy. I almost wish I was a cop sometimes so I could make it my eternal duty to hand out thousands of littering tickets. Driving down the highway, taking exit ramps... heck even walking down a busy street. You see litter everywhere and its just a massive sign is disrespect and carelessness in our society.

Another thing that annoys me... all those stupid restaurants that insist on putting crap on your front door, etc. When I lived in an apartment you would see THOUSANDS of these things flying all over. People would just take them off their door and toss em on the ground. It was madness....

Muther fukers who throw cigarrettes on the ground should be linched. What the hell does it take to field strip it and dispose of the filter properly?

Sheet, I even do that at the range. And if my truck smells like smoke, it's my truck. You can drive and I won't smoke.

So far as second hand smoke in a park...what BS.

It's marketing at work. If they didn't benefit from increased orders, they wouldn't do it.

You're all missing the point of this ordinance. It's not about clean air. It's about tax dollars. Who hangs out all day and smokes? Illegal day laborers looking for work, crackheads, degenerates, etc. It should keep all that sludge out of the town, but more importantly out of sight. Nobody wants to move to an area with undesirables hanging out all day.

I'd look for some high priced developments to pop up soon after this goes into effect. They did the same thing in Morristown. The town enacted a public smoking ban to get rid of all the homeless and crackheads hanging out at the train station. The sludge migrates via the rail lines to the methadone clinic and then stumbles over to the rail station to hang out and beg for change. Right around the time this was being passed they started building luxury condos & townhouses in downtown Morristown. The higher they sell for the higher the tax revenue. It comes down to dollar$ & cent$.

I dunno I just think smokers get picked on by society and our scumbag politicians, the only problem with that is if I stop smoking, well im a big asshole and get stressed easily, and agitated easily. Also feel more aggressive at times when I shouldn't be feeling aggressive, so it's a treatment to keep me calm. If im not smoking, im not easy to be around, especially if I get agitated. I'd rather be calm and mellow till the day I die, life's to short to be pissed all the time.

Lawmaker wants strictest cell phone laws in the country for N.J. drivers

http://www.nj.com/news/index.ssf/2010/0 ... o_ena.html

Many support this idiots bill as well. Just another little bill that chips away another freedom

I had a comment on that, but of course it was deleted,

I said it should be up to the parents to regulate that, not the politicians, there is already a law against it. Our state is mommied enough, we don't need anymore of these stupid laws.

I said something like that, but it's gone now.

Hey Go, have you looked into the whole Electronic Cig thing?? My Wife just ordered one..feeds the nicotine addiction without the stink to everyone around you and the tar and pollutants in your lungs. A couple of friends use them and swear by them...Oh and did i mention in the long run it's a hell of a lot cheaper?? Since the Nicotine is extracted from IIRC tomato Plants, you dont have the taxes associated with Tobacco products.
