Shot Show 2012 - Just Epic!

Recommended Posts

Thanks Alex. I have 3 bags worth of stuff from media day at the range and the show itself. The lighting was not conducive to photography indoors, nor did I drag a camera out with me. Will be relying on the better produced photographs from the manufacturers themselves.

Next year may do more stuff with it. We shall see.

I will say though, over the past week, have seen and met with most of the folks from TopShot, even played craps with the dude, forgot his name that was the shotgun champ, the younger guy. Little bit of the Hk vibe from him (better than you and we know it), maybe it was just him loosing money at the table. Was quite weird to see people wait in line to take a picture with the Gunny, and cast of Sons of Guns.... although there was no line to get a pic with Paige Wyatt of GunSmoke. lol. Who else, Rob Pincus, and all the other normal people.

The FNS seems interesting, even in the crowded field of polymer striker fired guns. Maks, how would you compare the FNS trigger to a stock M&P? Is there even a comparison?

I shot the FNX and really liked it and the FNS seems like a great evolution of that platform. I also spoke to FNH USA today and they indicated that 10 rnd mags are in the works so its potentially viable in NJ soon. The FNS uses the same mags as the FNX.

Hogue Zombie Grips. When is enough? You have otherwise respectable companies like Leupold, Ruger, and Hogue feeding this tacti-tard mentality. It was pretty stupid funny when they came out with Zombie ammo, but to have manufacturers pile on this board?

In full disclosure, I do have a zombie lower, which is to me pretty much the same as a gag gift, but by all means I would not be putting on glow in the dark "zombie" grips, and shooting "zombie" ammo.

Zombie-tard, the new tacti-tard.

Did you see Otis' new zombie gun cleaning kit?

I've read only the 40 has mags that swap between team FNS and FNX

the 9 has one more/less rib on the mag which prevents it from being interchangeable

I don't get why gun companies don't pay attention more to magazine interchangeability...I guess it's another source of revenue for them :/

Is it just me, or has this year's SHOT been a let down? The only thing I've found interesting so far is the slim .45 XD , and I don't even like XD's.

Oh there's plenty of interesting stuff, just the coverage this year is craptastic. Not all the interesting stuff is NJ relevant though.

For example.. the mossberg 930 jerry miculeck edition. It's a 930 with nordic tube and bolt handle, an enlarged safety, a different forend, and some beveling to the loading port as well as chroming of the gas piston. Supposed to start shipping ot ditributors in < 30 days, and places are taking pre-orders with a streeet price of under $580. That's insane. But it is 8+1 or 10+1, and thus not for NJ.

Leupold... ignoring their zombie scope... put out a 1-6x version of their 1-8x scope. This is cool because it's still nice optically, but instead of costing nearly $4k it is in theory going to run about $1600-1800.

LWRC has a produciton version of what is essentially the honey badger. Which is cool. If you live in a state where you can get an SBR and a silencer.

There were a bunch of nice 870 accessories if you want to mess with your 870.

There were a lot of good new free float tubes for ARs.

There were lots of good lights there, but one could argue too many.

There was a lot of nice clothing if you are under 6'2" and not fat and have lots of cash.

There just werent' a ton of really interesting guns, which applies to most years. It's not like archery where they replace nearly their entire line up each year. I think what we have seen at this show, gun wise, is stuff we have seen before that you might actually be able to buy. Myslef, I like that a lot more than announcing and upcoming product and it's return appearance at next years shot show for a wrong delivery date, and a special encore appearance at the shot show after that to tell you it's dead jim or might actually be going into production.

That's all I wanted to hear. Gracias.

Thinking more and more, I am quite certain by now that the XD 45 Slim is the best new gun introduced this year at shot show, and with out a doubt, the best bang for the buck. It will be my go to choice once the gun is out.

Quite honestly, comparing this back to back against the other ones in the class, Sig 938, Sig P238, Sig P224, Ruger LCP, Ruger LC9, the XDS is the best shooting and feeling out of all of them. As long as they don't screw up the price point, Springfield can't mess this one up.

So last day at Shot Show.

Wanted to go over a few things and make sure I got them all.

XD-S 45 is without a doubt, the gun of the show for me. Someone asked the question, is it a pocket carry gun, or a small regular carry gun.... it is both. It will fit into the pocket, but depending on your pants, might be a little tight. If you are wearing shorts, no issues with those. Weight, figure a cell phone and keys weigh as much.

Some USPSA stuff, ran into Michael Voight, twice, the outgoing USPSA president, and asked him the question about the recently enacted, future rule changes. Point blank, does not know if they will stand.

Another really cool thing, met Mr. Tanfoglio himself, Massimo Tanfoglio. Chatted with him about his guns, USPSA, IPSC, next world shoot. Really cool dude.
