joshg138 0 Posted April 11, 2012 I already have a Mak-90, and I absolutely love it. But now, I'm starting to get that "itch." I've decided to get a Saiga and do the conversion myself, but I can't decide to go with a 5.45 or 7.62 model. Or should I be responsible and remind myself that I really don't "NEED" another gun. Dr.Jimmy Rustler 23 Posted April 11, 2012 unless the mak90 is converted to take double stack mags id go with the 5.45 just cause the ammo is dirt cheap.
Pew Pew Plates 358 Posted April 11, 2012 You have a MAK-90, its one of the best made AKMs out there, why would you want a Saiga? If you want a cheap tinker gun the Saiga isnt your only option, they can all be tinkered with to the same level... That aside, 5.45 is a sweet round esecially since you already have 7.62....diversify!

And with the company declaring bankruptcy, I want to pick one up now before the prices skyrocket. i going to post a unfired Romanian RPK some time this week for 600 ,,if your interested Thanks, but that isn't really what I'm looking for. RecessedFilter 222 Posted April 28, 2012 I'd go 5.45. It's a fun and cheap round to shoot. Waffenwerks baby! Best 74 in the low-end price range you can get right now.
RedBowTies88 41 Posted April 28, 2012 5.45 saiga.... or dare i say?....... .223??

And with the company declaring bankruptcy, I want to pick one up now before the prices skyrocket. How much do you think the prices will rise in the next year or two? My unabridged "life time wish list" has 4 Saigas at the bottom: 5.45, 7.62, .308 and 12ga Problem is I don't have enough safe space at my current place. Do you think it's worth buying them now and putting them in storage for later conversion? I wouldn't mind paying a premium of 50% in a year or two. But if the prices are going to double and triple I'd like to buy now. The Saiga-12 and .308 are already twice the price of the other calibres What to do, what to do? Maksim 1,504 Posted April 28, 2012 As a shitty Russian myself, why would you want an akm when the ar platform can do the same, in a lot better package. I have an RPK based Robinson vepr, not the new shitty feeling ones, and I have not shot it in ages. Is it reliable? Sure.... But will not shoot sub moa and will not evolve better ergos. If you want a good Russian caliber rifle, get a 5.45 chambered ar, or a Sig 556 Russian or ptr 7.62x39. Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk
RedBowTies88 41 Posted April 28, 2012 I prefer ak ergeros over AR. And I've got no problem with the accuracy. I'll bet it's pretty near a milspec ar in the same caliber with the same ammo.
vjf915 456 Posted April 28, 2012 since you already have 7.62....diversify! This. As a shitty Russian myself, why would you want an akm when the ar platform can do the same, in a lot better package. Price point. A good quality AKM will cost about the same as a shitty AR chambered in the same round. Ergonomics are a moot point, as the pistol grip, stock, and handguard can all be changed out for one that the user desires. Pretty sure that the reliability argument is a moot point as well, as most AKM rifles are more reliable than similarly priced AR's. And even a 7.62x39 rifle, in all likelihood the least accurate compared to 5.56 and 5.45, will still shoot more accurately than most members on this forum can. Personal preference wins. I LOVE the Saiga.. but I have a hard time justifying two mid range rifles..
vladtepes 1,060 Posted April 29, 2012 i know right... you know how I am about having multiple guns that do the same thing.. lol if I sell it it is to fund another project..

vjf915 456 Posted April 29, 2012 I did the same thing recently. Sad to see my Saiga go, but I as well was using my AR more often. They both proved to be just as reliable, so I didn't see the point in having both.
